About Ecorse, MI
The city of Ecorse, whose name is derived from French for "tree bark," is located on the Detroit River in Wayne County, Michigan, in the Detroit metro area and was originally used as a burial ground by the Native American tribes of the area and later settled by the French. Major attractions nearby include the Detroit Science Center, which has a theater and a children's gallery and exhibits on matter and energy, waves and vibration, life sciences and motion and the Dossin Great Lakes Museum, which exhibits the anchor of the S.S. Edmund Fitzgerald and the pilot house from the S.S. William Clay Ford. One of the best places to visit when you are in Ecorse is nearby, 1,258-acre Lower Huron Metropolitan Park, located on the Huron River and with a swimming pool, water slide, playground, basketball and tennis courts, a trail, a golf course and camping and picnic areas.
