The Natural Soap Life!

Hello everyone! It's been a busy year for us! We've been discovered by a couple of new shops, and are trying to keep up with the demand that these new wholesale ventures have created. Please welcome The Painted Cupboard and proprietor Sabrina Liggett of Oakland MD, and also Guten Tag of Funkstown, MD and proprietor Jessica Snyder, to our wholesale family! We are excited to share our products with their customers in their one of a kind boutiques. Fall is only a few days away, but the cooler temps have definitely gotten our creative juices flowing! Our natural soap lab is just brimming with new, seasonally inspired products that you're sure to want to try.   Our new all-natural lip balm flavor line up includes: Butterscotch Baked Apple Autumn Pear and Chai Tea, in addition to some year round favorites. Each natural lip balm starts with our wonderful soybean oil base- a nice firm consistency, but not so firm that it drags! Lightly sweetened, too. For natural soaps, we have a couple of new fall varieties to temp you: Clockwork Orange, featuring a spicy cinnamon, orange, clove essential oil combo, and Epicurean Delight, which features a warm amber-like aroma with a touch of vanilla, swirled with hibiscus flower powder (which I thought would produce a warm rosy color, but like so many natural things, made a beautiful beige speckle instead!). Nothing ventured, nothing gained, as they say, and every bit as beautiful as I had wanted. We'll be attending Greencastle PA's First Friday October in the next couple weeks. Follow us on facebook at Facebook.com/barsoapnatural for more details. For now, I can tell you that it runs from 5pm-8pm, and we're usually outside ELM Department store, right on the square. So get ready for fall, everyone! We're elated to be so busy making the products you've come to love and expect from us at The Natural Bar Soap Company, and can't wait to share some new creations with you in the coming months. See you soon! Erin Soap Alchemist, and owner of The Natural Bar Soap Company ...read more

Why Bother with Making Soap?

I'm the owner of The Natural Bar Soap Company, http://barsoapnatural.com, and I am often asked why I bother making soap when it can be easily bought at a store so inexpensively and conveniently. I guess it comes down to the fact that my soap ONLY contains natural ingredients- nothing waxy, nothing to dry out my skin and make it itchy, none of those overly perfumey scents. I like that I can take ordinary oils like olive oil, coconut oil, maybe a little shea butter, and turn it into a bubbly bar of goodness for my skin! I can choose the color, the scent, whether or not to add a bit of scrubby texture with oatmeal. I can even choose the size and shape. I know what I put into it, so I know how it will treat my skin. I'm one of those people who truly enjoys bathing. Whether it's in a shower, or a warm bath tub, using a bubbly bar of soap of my body feels good. It's relaxing and comforting. Knowing that the ingredients in it are safe and effective are the icing on the cake! Perhaps just as importantly, I am very creative. Why buy something that I know I can make myself, and make better?? The high I get out of using something that I made with my own two hands, from start to finish, is incredibly satisfying. And, seeing others get as excited about my products as I am creates a similar thrill for me. I do very well selling my soap creations at craft fairs, perhaps because I am passionate about my "hobby" and I love to share it with others. Sensing my excitement gets them excited as well, and another natural soap addict is born! So, why bother? Because I can, and because I enjoy it. I LOVE making soap. And I especially LOVE using the natural soaps I create. After years of using my natural soaps, I can honestly say that they feel better, work better, smell better and are just plain better than anything I could buy in a store.   ...read more
