Consumers should beware of air duct cleaning companies that are not NADCA certified that make sweeping claims about the health benefits of duct cleaning, such claims are unsubstantiated. Consumers should also beware of "blow-and-go" air duct cleaning companies. These companies often charge a nominal fee and do a poor job of cleaning the heating and cooling system. As part of the DUCTZ new franchisee training process, new franchisees go through an extensive two weeks training session to learn every detail of the DUCTZ cleaning process. During the training, new franchisees, led by NADCA certified DUCTZ master trainers, clean a real house in the community. Instead of servicing randomly selected homes in Metro Detroit, like they have in the past, DUCTZ is putting their training to good use by cleaning the air ducts and HVAC systems of Habitat for Humanity of Huron Valley homes. DUCTZ has also worked with Habitat for Humanity of Oakland County and plans to work with Habitat for Humanity in Macomb, Wayne and Livingston Counties. Typically, the air duct cleaning service would be valued at anywhere from $400 to $900 for homes between 1,000 to 2,500 square feet, but now will be given to a Habitat family in need for free. Once the graduated DUCTZ franchisee completes training they are eager to bring the Habitat for Humanity relationship back to their local community. This new relationship has already formed involvement in five other major cities; Atlanta, GA, Milwaukee, WI, Baltimore, MD, Indianapolis, IN, and Cincinnati, OH.
