We just purchased our 2014 Nissan Sentra and then someone crossed the yellow line and side swiped our new car. We took our car to Severn auto Body and am so glad we did. The gave us updates almost daily. The shop is clean and comfortable. The staff is super friendly. They have rental car service on premises so all we did was drop our car off and drove away In a rental. They took a bad experience like a car accident and turned it in to a pleasurable experience. As set forth by MMWA, an independent mechanic, a retail chain shop, or even the owner may perform routine maintenance and repairs on a vehicle during the manufacturer̢۪s warranty period. The law makes it illegal for manufacturers or dealers to void a warranty or deny coverage because someone other than the dealer did the work. However, the manufacturer or dealer may require consumers to use specific repair facilities if services are provided free of charge. Limitations for Repairs Under certain situations, a repair may not be covered by the warranty if it were performed by the owner or an alternative dealer service facility. For example, an improperly installed timing belt that damages the engine may allow the manufacturer or dealer to deny responsibility after demonstrating that the faulty installation was the cause. In any case, the warranty would still be in effect for other parts of the car. Aftermarket or Recycled Parts Voiding a car warranty because an aftermarket or recycled part was installed is unlawful according to the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act. There are several car problems that usually only occur during the winter season. This season brings freezing temperatures that can severely affect vehicles. Knowing how to address cold weather issues that can affect your car will help you reduce breakdowns and keep you safe when it’s cold. Fluids at Freezing Temps When the temperature falls to 32 degrees Fahrenheit or below, water begins freezing, making possible the snow, sleet, and ice that make driving tough and even treacherous. Car fluids may are also affected. Make sure your coolant concentration is sufficient for the climate where you live or are traveling. In extremely cold temperatures, motor oil may thicken and won’t flow as fast to engine parts that need lubrication. Winter grade lightweight oil will flow more easily in cold weather. Check your service manual to see if this is an acceptable option for your vehicle. Batteries in the Cold A car battery is more susceptible to being drained when temperatures are very cold. During freezing weather, more energy is necessary to start a car. Park inside a garage whenever possible. An old battery approaching the end of its life span will also have a higher likelihood of dying in winter and leaving you stranded. Regular checkups will decrease the probability of a dead battery. When the temperature falls, battery power decreases. To maximize starting power, shut off all accessories such as the radio, heater, and lights before turning on the ignition. Tire Pressure Drops Tire pressure is also affected by temperature, and so it is especially critical to take readings during very cold weather. Every 10-degree decrease of temperature will reduce tire pressure by 1 pound. Due to more air exposure, the surfaces of bridge decks ice up before their approach roads will. Entrance and exit ramps pose a greater challenge during winters because of less application of anti-icing material than the main line. Do not employ cruise control in wintry conditions. Roads that appear dry and clear can suddenly become slippery or icy. Tapping brakes to deactivate cruise control may lead to loss of control. 4X4 Overconfidence Overconfidence due to driving a 4x4 vehicle is dangerous during winter. Although providing more traction, most four-wheel drive vehicles weigh more than cars and take more time to stop. Heavy Vehicles Heavy vehicles, such as trucks, require more time to respond and stop safely, and so avoid darting quickly in ahead of them.
