It seems like it's a never ending story. People are cruising along in their careers, going to work everyday, supporting their families and then out of no where....wham...the job is gone! Maybe it was downsizing, maybe the jobs got shipped to another country or maybe a new boss was hired and he just didn't see the value in keeping your position any longer. In this ultra competitive market that we must all live in, we may at some point face a job loss. In too many cases...multiple times in one's lifetime.I saw my father-in-law stay at one place for thirty seven years and retire with a pension, 410K, and a golden parachute at age fifty-six. Where have those days gone? I think they retired in 1996 with my father-in-law. So let's face it, no one stays in one place anymore...for a million different reasons. My point is, that there is no such thing as true "job" security any longer and in order to better protect our primary income streams we need to look outside of the norm. Getting a second job working nights, is not the answer either. Over the years, I have seen or been involved with many different business ideas and various forms of MLM's (Multi Level Marketing Companies) I have watched mighty ones like Amway crumble, not because their products are bad, but because large portions of their distributor bases were more involved in marketing tapes and books than in moving products. Excel Communications, the long distance provider out of Texas was riding a wave of success in the nineties only to get sold and then resold and fall by the wayside and taking people's hopes and dreams with them. Running around selling products to friends, family and neighbors is not the answer either, there's very little money in retail, and when you figure out the time involved in doing that, you see why people fail. I see so many start up companies today trying to gain a customer base by using MLM strategy. The problem is, in order to pay commisions to your organization, you need to market either in bulk, or you need to charge three times what the product cost in a store. In the end there is just so many scientific studies you can cite about how much a product does, before a consumer grows weary of paying forty dollars for a bottle of juice or an energy drink. The answer for me was "consumer direct" marketing instead of MLM. With consumer direct marketing, the consumer buys the majority of the products at wholesale rates, agreeing to purchase every month, and saving money in the process. Consumables-products used in the household every day ensure a consistent usage volume and reorder rate month after month. No matter what downturn happens in the economy, people still have to shower and wash their dishes. Then you have the fact that the manufacturer has been around for twenty five plus years, is privately owned and considered by Forbes to be one of the fast growing companies in the US. Add to that, being a pioneer in the "green" industry, producing better, safer products (with no harmful chemicals) that cost less and work better and you have a perfect storm of opportunity. Since we also live in the information age, we now have opportunity to find clients through internet and social marketing sites and this only gets better by the minute. So, in our business, we teach folks how to leverage some of their time to build some real financial security. And unlike the other business opportunities I've looked at studied or been involved with, I have received a commission check every single month since I became involved with Melaleuca Corporation in the fall of 2002.
