There are common signs and symbols that are used in wayfinding systems which are believed to be understood universally – transcending age, culture, ethnicity, gender, etc. I work at https://asapessay.com/custom-dissertation-writing/ . I plan to look at these symbols, which are used in the wayfinding systems of other university campuses, and identify those which appear to be the most effective. These symbols may include: arrows, certain typefaces, color schemes, dining utensils and library books (examples of symbols that refer to dining services and a library), and others. I’ll also study the areas of how people navigate the campus and the different types of wayfinding tasks they can execute: explore, quest and route. In addition, I will be looking at the design of maps and their legends, including analyzing maps that are schematic versus those that are more pictorial, and how a potential hybrid version might improve effectiveness. As mentioned before, other areas of exploration may include university branding and the integration of campus culture (through the signs of the university mascot and color scheme). I also plan on substantiating the need for a hybrid map with a possible prototype. In addition, I hope to develop graphic renderings of signage as well as a framework for implementing a new, comprehensive wayfinding system.
