I have been walking around on a fractured ankle since march 2010. Finally, I got an appointment and fusion of the ankle was reccommended. How, the dr (surgeon) will not do the surgery until I totally quit smoking. I am now smoking a cigarette a day (one). she still refuses to do the surgery. she says it slows the healing. However, numerous of surgerys that I have had, I smoked a pack or more a day. They have all been bone surgerys, and I have done fine. She said that thiss is fusion, well I have had fusions on my neck, and I did fine with them while smoking a pack a day. Why is it her choice that I be denied medical care because I smoke a cigarette a day? What ever happened to care of the vet cominmg first. I am walking around in pain every day because I smoke a cig a day. I have had many horror stories in the past, and some say that I should go to the media about atrocities that I have had from the V.A. ccenter. Veterans health care is becomming a joke. ...read more
