Mike's On The Avenue

2.0

By rigel54 at Citysearch

No_photo_small\t\nApril 20, 2012\t\nDoesn't like it\t\nEdit\t\nGreat food, poor experience.\t\nby Rigel54 (28 reviews)\t\nCame by early for the sister bar, Twist. Twist proved to have strong but below average (in taste) drinks at an above average price. I could really teach them a thing or two about making drinks.\t\n\t\nArrived on time for our reservations at Mike's. We were put off for ""10 minutes."" 10 became 50 before we were seated. Very pleasantly delivered service was nonetheless delivered at such a drawn out pace that, having arrived at 7:45 and been seated at 8:25 we only finished our meal at 10:35. The food was mostly good to fabulous, but starving before, frustrated during, and stuffed at bedtime (with the regrettable indigestion and sleepless night to come).\t\n\t\nOh, I forgot to mention that we \t\nwere on a TravelZoo offer of a fixed price for a shared appetizer, 2 salads, 2 entrees, 2 drinks, and shared dessert. The offer was priced for a max $35 entree. The entrees (new menu!!) were all ~$24, with 1 $36 ""not on the TravelZoo offer. I was told I could ante up the $1 and have the filet. After a glacial wait, I was told they were ""out of the filet, except for 1 which they had ""accidentally"" overcooked. They forced a hanger steak on me, not bad, but billed at $36. Wow. Can I say transparent dishonesty? A second couple on TravelZoo received similar treatment.\t\n\t\nDon't come here if you are on a schedule, or if you want to be fairly treated. ...read more
