Covington, LA Nurse Practitioner Pamela Egan is pleased to announce that she will be offering her signature line of custom-formulated vitamins and nutritional supplements to customers all across the United States via the web. Egan will be partnering with Egan Medical, a retail medical equipment and supply dealer also located in Covington, to offer the health supplements for sale on Egan Medical's website and online store, EganMedical.com. Pamela Egan, NP-C, CDE, has made a name for herself in recent years for her health column, which often has featured topics related to nutrition, such as the benefits of good nutrition and the consequences of some nutritional deficiencies. For example, Egan was the first media figure to write about the differences between two forms of vitamin D commonly found in supplements. Back in 2004 and 2005, Egan wrote a series of articles identifying vitamin D3, or cholecalciferol, as a superior form of the nutrient to vitamin D2, or ergocalciferol. Vitamin D3, she wrote, is the natural form of vitamin D which humans obtain through exposure to sunlight. It is more readily absorbable and is more easily transformed into a compound the body can use than is D2, which is largely synthetic and manufactured by humans inside of a laboratory. In the time since that article hit the wire, there has been something of a renaissance among health and nutrition writers and columnists. The term has become commonplace in nutrition circles, and is among the most written about and researched topics in all of nutrition. Prior to 2007, there are few if any records (besides NP Egan's articles) of media reports distinguishing between vitamins D2 and D3.
