March (pest) Madness

March is finally here!  Temperatures are warming up.  Snow is hopefully gone for good.  Ants are coming.   Yes, the ants are coming.  Among the other pests that are naturally around our houses like mice, rats, beetles and oriental roaches, the ants are beginning to become active and forage for resources to help grow their colonies. One thing you can do for yourself is to go outside and remove all the leaf litter and excess dead foliage from around your house or business.  Ants generally live under anything that holds condensation under it like leaf litter, patio bricks, heavy mulch, etc.  The less options there are for ants to find comfort around your structure, the happier you will be.  This doesn't mean ants will not find you, but at least we aren't helping them. Unless you think you can handle the ants yourself,  call me immediately when you first see ants.  The siooner we treat for them, the sonner you get relief.  At this time of year, the ant colony numbers are much smaller than they will be in a few weeks.  By that time, an ant service that would have taken a few days to eradicate the ants will take 10 to 12 days.  The sooner the better for ant treatments!   ...read more

Happy Valentines Day! Spring is coming soon! This is good news! ...read more

A New Year!

Happy New Year!  2011 is here and in NE Kansas it is cold.  What does that mean in the pest world?  It means pests are searching for warmer places to ride out the winter. Little known fact:  Cold terperatures do not kill insects.  Lower temperatures only slow an insects biologocal processes.  Once an insect finds a warmer climate like our homes or businesses, they return to their normal activity. Mice will still be trying to find ways into warm buildings.  Be alert for the tell-tale signs of mice and call us immediately. Have a great January!   ...read more
