Brakes and the price other places charge.

Here at Gates Automotive we are not in the habbit of down talkingother business, and we wil not talk of names. But we feel we needto discuss the prices the other shops are charging for brake jobs. It is out of control! I have had customer tel me that they had their car in an other shop and they where going to charge them 400 plus dollars to have the exact same job that we do every day for 165.00. un real and this is not an isolated deal it is  happening all over. For years the owner David has worked for the two major tire and service companies. and came to one conclusion OVER PRICED. Here at Gates Automotive we know we do not have to charge the crazy high prices the other guys do, to stay in business. This is the sole purpose of us opening this business, a shop that people can feel like they haven't been taken to the cleaners. We are a full line shop anything that you need we can do. and do it less then the other guys. We want more from our customers, its not enough for you to tell others how good our work is. We want to earn the right for you to tell others that we are like family. ...read more

HOW TO EXTEND THE LENGTH OF YOUR CHEVY

If you’re like most consumers, some of your purchases, like groceries or undergarments, are not bought with the intent to preserve these items for an extended period. Others however, like a car, are often purchased with the desire to prolong the length of ownership for as long as possible. With these three tips, used Chevrolet drivers can extend the length of their vehicles and thus, get the most bang for their buck. 1 – Regular maintenance Taking your Chevy for regular maintenance is like getting your teeth checked every six months: it’s necessary, it could save you a good amount of money in the long run and it makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Taking your Chevy to your local Kansas City used car dealers is the best way to keep your car in check. It stands to reason that these mechanics will be the most knowledgeable about your vehicle and therefore give you the most accurate information to keep your car running.   Information on when to get your car serviced can be found in your Chevy’s manual but one general rule of thumb is to get your oil changed every 3,000 miles or every three months, whichever comes first. Cooling and heating systems typically don’t need to be checked as frequently but should be examined by your Kansas City used Chevrolet mechanics every 30,000 miles or every two years. Having your car’s fluids, emissions and other components checked every couple of years is also a good idea and will help avoid costly repairs down the road.   2 – Self Maintenance In addition to visiting your used car dealers for a routine checkup, Chevy drivers can also take steps at home to help extend the life of their car. One beneficial practice is to pay close attention to your brakes and make sure that they aren’t worn down. There are two simple ways to determine wear on your disc brakes: looking and listening. If you notice your brake pads are less than ¼ of an inch thick or hear a high pitched screeching sound when the brakes are applied, it’s a good idea to have them checked out. Monitoring your brakes can save you the expensive cost of replacing the rotors and possible the calipers.   Rotating your tires is another practice that is beneficial to engage in on a regular basis to even out the pressure that is put on each tire. Each time you turn your steering wheel, your front tires take most of the burden and should be rotated with your rear tires so that no one tire wears down at a faster pace than another. Rotating your tires will equalize the tread wear on each tire and prolong the longevity of your tires.    3 – Wash your Car Particularly for KCMO drivers and other residents who have to face snowy, slick roads, keeping your car clean, or free of salt, with also help extend your Chevy’s shelf life. The salt and sludge that come along with winter months can rust your car and can lead to pricey body work. Other substances, such as tree sap, can also cause your car’s body to rust so keeping your car clean will not only extend the length of ownership, but will also keep your car looking newer longer.   ...read more
