Music Source

5.0

By John

I can't say enough good things about the Music Source. I bought a Washburn B-17 banjo and Bob and the folks at Washburn couldn't have been more accommodating. I have a beautiful instrument at a fair price and the customer service was great. If you are looking for a great long term music store, this one deserves a close look. I am more than pleased. Thanks to everyone, John ...read more

Medal Embroidery

My husband and I are participating in a series of races in Wisconsin. You get a medal for finishing the race. This year all the medals in the series are the same except for the color of ribbon. There was a sticker on the back of some of them indicating the race but no other identifying info. I decided to embroider the name of the race on the ribbon. I measured the width of the ribbon and chose a heavier font to lay on top of the grosgrain ribbon. I adjusted the height of the lettering to fit on the ribbon and then adjusted the width of the name if necessary so I could do them in my 5 x 7 hoop. I then added a basting stitch. I hooped sticky paper and stitched the first color which was the basting box. I then laid the ribbon on the sticky and repeated the basting box to hold the ribbon down. I did have to support the medal as it stitched the lettering since it was heavy and may have pulled the ribbon off the sticky paper. Then all I had to do was remove the bating stitch, tear the ribbon off the paper and pick out all the little pieces on the back. We will now be able to always know which medal came from which race. ...read more

Becca's Quilt

My youngest niece just graduated from high school. As each of them graduated I made them a quilt from the Turning Twenty pattern (except for the two that are my goddaughters) I would have a ton of fun finding twenty fat quarters that represented things they enjoyed. When my niece started her senior year of high school she posted that she couldn't wait to graduate and get her quilt from Auntie Celeste. I considered it a great compliment. For Becca it was ladybugs and penguins. I found several ladybug fabrics but the only penguin (that wasn't Christmasy) I could get was from a friend who had some scraps from a quilt she had done. Fortunately it was a big enough piece for me to get the four different sized pieces I needed. The other fabrics were bright bubbly fabrics reflecting her personality. The label also had a penguin, one I had bought a few years ago to make a different present for her. The other label has the info regarding the piecer and the quilter. Now that they are all graduated I'm waiting for the wedding quilts to start. I have made one baby quilt for a grand niece already. ...read more

Travel Time Sewing Camp

My last sewing camp of the summer was Travel Time. The girls made an organizer that rolled up and then could hang from a hook in the bathroom. They also made a clear vinyl zippered pouch to store things that might leak, a tag for their luggage and a cord 'taco' to keep charging cords or headphones from tangling. I found the instructions for the hanging organizer in an old Sew News magazine. I made a few minor changes to the construction to make it a little easier. We found we had to use some tissue paper to sew on the vinyl, I didn't have Teflon feet for everyone. The other projects I found on Pinterest. What a great source for finding fun and free sewing projects. By the end of camp the girls had put in 4 zippers, made a buttonhole on the sewing machine, pounded snaps into place and made their own double folded binding tape. It was fun seeing how different they all turned out due to the girl's fabric choices. A few mistakes were made and corrected and lessons learned about patience and persistence. They all finished by the end of the fourth day with a little help. I think I will do this camp again in a few years. Now a little break before I start after school sewing the week after Labor Day. ...read more
