Without a doubt Popeye's makes the best chicken in the city, as far as fast food is concerned. The problem isn't with the chicken, oh no. The problem is (among other things) the fact that they play the national commercials here with no intention on selling these new items in Boise, or barely ordering enough to last a week. For instance, when Popeye's first started selling crawfish I decided that I would head down to my local popeyes and enjoy a delicious crawfish basket, with fries, and biscuit. Upon arriving at the aforementioned establishment I was informed that not only were they not selling crawfish, but they would never be selling crawfish. My problem with this is that is seems like if they're going to play the commercial they might as well sell the product. A similar story is true of the "chicken dippers" that came out recently, not that they didn't sell them, but they only ordered enough for just under one week (which is ok enough, I suppose, considering the franchise owner has to guess on the amount to be ordered).\t\nThe service is shaky at best; it's rare when you get good service. THE best gyro I've ever had! I've lived in Boise all my life and became a lover of gyros years ago when I tasted my first one downtown at a shop in the Alaska building (they had another in the Boise Towne Sqaure Mall.) Both were excellent, and then they went away. :-(\t\nSo for the past several years, I've had to get my gyro fixes at festivals, fairs, and the Greek Food Festival. So I was so pleased to see a new shop on Overland (they have a 2nd shop on State Street), and oh my goodness! Not only do they serve up the best gyro I've ever had, they are SO economical! Sad to say, I agree with Cassie's review. Like Cassie, I have been a loyal customer of The Big Bun for years, often going out of my way to eat there. I just moved into their area, and was excited about the close proximity. Today I ordered a $7.00 burger (which is the price I would expect to pay at a sit-down restaurant and which would come with fries), and their finger steaks. Burger was very good, but again, not a price I would expect from a drive-thru. The finger steaks were way overdone (and also overpriced - could have had excellent ones, with fries, at Buster's.) Sad to say...I won't be going back. Will visit The Gyro Shack up the street instead - excellent food, excellent value! ...read more
