Types of Jobs in Fast Food Restaurants

Fast food restaurants are the most popular choice when it comes to food that is cheap and quick. It is also a place of business that has a high turnover rate of employees. They pay lower wages, require little education and where younger people tend to work. There are many different jobs available in fast food restaurants that have flexible hours.

Cashier


A cashier is usually the person who takes orders, money and delivers the food to each person. This position requires a person to know the store policies, especially the ones that involve credit or debit cards and problems that may arise when orders are placed. They bag food and provide drinks to the customers. They must know how to count money so they can take it and return change. This position requires a person to stand for long periods. When there are not many customers, they will clean the dining area.


Food Preparation Worker


This person is required to be on their feet for long periods of time while they prepare foods such as soups and salads. They must move fast to prepare the orders. Sometimes they prepare coffee. The workers must handle food safely and exercise care so they are not burned or injured from cuts. When their work is done, they may also help clean the dining area.


Fast Food Cook


The cook is responsible for cooking food on a grill, boiler or oven. They commonly prepare burgers, French fries and other fried items. Sometimes they prepare food ahead of time and store them in a warm area. Fast food cooks stand for long periods of time and work in a hot environment.


Managers


Managers are responsible for overseeing the workers and the restaurant. They must also train and fire people. Their hours usually include working every day of the week with longer hours during each day. They must work to fill jobs when employees do not show up for work. Managers must make schedules, cook and clean. This position requires opening the restaurant at the start of business and locking up at the end of business.
