Create a memory

We all have certain events or times in our life that stand out more than others. I was looking at a bowl I turned on a lathe in middle school which was over thirty years ago. I remember the whole process from a block of American Black Walnut, into a beautiful piece of functional art. I gave that bowl to my mother as a gift back then. She has recently given it back to me and seeing it again brought back all the memories. It is the same for anything we make especially if we then give that as a gift.Children love to create. They also love to give. I watch my son and daughter very focused and concentrated doing art projects and crafts. Their attention is intense and the care with each selected color or placement of gem stones to their project is mind blowing. From running around bouncing off the walls to that level of attention is amazing. After all that hard work they say "daddy I made this for you" it truly is special for me and I know for them as well when their creation goes up on the wall. Come on down to Loganville and Create a Memory. We would love to see you for a birthday party. Thanks Rick ...read more

Creativity is learned!

In its most basic defenition creativity is to make or bring into existence something new and of value. There is in eeveryone the power to be creative. When you see a product or idea and ponder why didn't I think of that? or How did they think of that? the answer is creativity. Creativity in the business world is one of the most savored and demanded skills.  Those that come up with the great ideas are rewarded financially and emotionally. There are numerous books on the subject. Children are naturally creative. Set ten children in front of ten separate piles of blocks and you are likely to get ten different constructions. Similarly, give the same children paper and crayons you will get ten different creations. Children have no internal mental blockages that can happen with experience. It is therefore, in my opinion, imperative to constantly challenge our children and ourselves with creative outlets. The great things about crafts are they meet this learning criteria (ie bringing into existence something new) and they are fun. Children love to be creative and they don't realize they are learning valuable life skills. By crafting, children also have a means of giving a personalized gift to someone they love and a sense of pride that they made this specifically for that person. In turn the recipient will also feel the same as the gift was created just for them. Whether you  craft, paint, play music enjoy sports or read/write keep your eyes open and think to yourself how can I make this better using that creative mind we all have.
