The classic "Bait and Switch" was pulled on me...DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME. I took my MacBook to the Apple store and found out I needed a new display assembly at a cost from Apple of $500. I called Laptops Plus and told them I needed a new display assembly for my MacBook and asked what it would cost. I was told about $250 so I brought it right in for them to work on. I left a $50 deposit for their tech to diagnose the problem first hand and a week later was told the EXACT same thing that Apple told me which I already knew....The price to fix? You guessed it $500! To add insult to injury, their display assembly is refurbished! I already knew what was wrong with it, I was looking to get it fixed for $250. If she would have told me $500 on the phone when I originally called, I would have never taken it in. Now I am out $50 for them to tell me something I already knew, and that I had told them. What a rip off these people are. BAIT AND SWITCH!!! Like I said, DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME! ...read more

I've been around Macs for a long time, and I have pretty good skills in working with them. One of our iMacs was having serious trouble, Steve was way beyond my level of skill and came to the rescue both with information and informed choices. He advised about equipment, installed faster hard drives, helped with our network and all in all came through for us. I have never seen his level of service from anyone in the IT field, he really is a hero! ...read more

Reflow of Laptop Video Chip

Many of today's laptops have very powerful graphics chipsets. These are used to power todays latest games and high end software CAD programs. They also help with pictures and editing. These chipsets can heat up during times of high usage and separate from the motherboard. This causes fractures in the solder and eventually, the machine will lose video or not even turn on. Before, the fix was a new motherboard, but Laptops Plus has the tools to REFLOW or REHEAT the video chip to melt the solder and repair these fractures. This is much cheaper and faster than the traditional mother board replacement. If you find that your laptop is having these issues, stop by and let us fix the problem! ...read more

Blow Your Laptop Fan Out Regularly!

Heat is one of the biggest culprits of laptop failure. Its very simple to keep your laptop running cool and happy. Simply use some compressed air to blow out the fan and heat sync on the side or rear of the laptop. If you have never done this before, you will be suprised at the amount of dust that comes out.  That dust prevents the heat from being expelled from the laptop and that heats up everything in the case. Keep those fans clean! ...read more

Easy Virus & Spyware Removal

Is your computer running slow? Are there pop-ups happening all the time? Perhaps the machine is complaining its low on memory. These symptoms usually mean a virus or spyware infection. However, many people don't know how to begin to remove these infections and that many of the tools necessary are free on the internet. Most of the time, my instructions are NEVER download a free item off the internet, since these are the main culprits of this problem. However, these tools are tried and true and should get you back in business quickly and easily. The first line of defense is a solid antivirus product. There are many to choose from such as Symantec's Norton and Mcafee. However, there are a few free antivirus products for home users that are just as effective. My choice for home users is Avast! This company provides a product that also removes and detects spyware for free, just offer an email address. They also have a reasonably priced professional version for businesses. Avast Antivirus The second line of defense is a spyware scanner and removal tool. Once again, there are many free options available that are just as good, if not better than the pay versions. My choices are below. Microsoft Defender SuperAntiSpyware Lavasoft Ad-Aware Spybot Search & Destroy In addition to these programs, there are some infections that remain and require special programs. These programs assist in removing the most stubborn spyware. Hijack This! SmitFraudFix Of course, the use of any of these programs could cause issues beyond the spyware or virus infection. Therefore, its always good to have a complete backup before trying to remove the problems yourself. ...read more
