How much should I cut

Determining how much to cut off the top of your grass can depend on several factors:The type of grass How much Sunlight What Season Soil Moisture The first rule of thumb is to not cut off more than 1/3 of the crown of the grass. Cutting more than 1/3 can cause damage to the grass and can cause stress to the root system. Now, this is not always possible, especially in the South. There are times that we would have to cut our yard twice a week during the hot rainy summer months. Generally, I like to maintain a grass height of about 3 inches. Keeping grass cut a little higher helps prevent weeds from growing. The more sunlight that gets through to the dirt, the better chance weed seeds can germinate. Always return the clippings back to the grass unless you have let it go too far and the grass starts to clump. Cross cut the grass and try and alternate the pattern each time you cut the grass. This will help the blades of grass stand upright. Cutting in the same pattern or direction can cause the grass blades to grow at an angle. Returning the clippings to the grass can put back almost 40% of the needed Nitrogen that grass needs. You don't need a mulching mower to do this as most mowers nowadays mulch/cut the grass small enough to be beneficial to the root system.  ...read more

Fall / Winter Fertilization

Prepare now for a beautiful lawn in the Spring. This is the most important time of the year to give your lawn the nutrients and minerals it needs for a long winter. Without the summer rains and sun your lawn will lose valuable nutrients it needs to maintain healthy roots. Applying a fertilization now will help your grass roots stay healthy and provide them the "kick start" they need when Spring rolls around. Weed control, yes weed control. You might not think that you need a weed control now with Winter approaching, but your wrong. All those weed spores and seedlings will be dormant for the winter and as soon as it starts to warm up...your in the weeds. Applying a weed control now will help eliminate the seedlings from germinating in Spring and will give your lawn a better chance to prosper. If you would like our assistance in providing these services please feel free to contact us and we would be more than happy to provide you a quote.  ...read more
