My experience was awful and very sad, and dangerous!!!\t\nMy problems were ignored, I had crippling anxiety and was told by everyone --therapists, psychiatrists that I was drug seeking and lying!!!\t\nI hate that place, group therapy was no help to me. I saw a one on one therapist once a week and for 15 minutes, she also was no help. I am looking into what I can do legally to fault them for theirtreatment.\t\nAvoid this rehab please!!! ...read more

I can't address the racism claimed in a prior review; but from what I saw when I was there, AVOID THIS PLACE, no matter what your race (I happen to be white). There's not even enough space here to mention everything they did wrong. I have a regular therapist, and the therapist was appalled and spent hours on the phone with them (with them trying to get back into the therapist's good graces because of all Turning Point's screw-ups; I don't believe she is going to use them again).\t\n\t\nAlso be aware that non-medical staff will deny you medications that are prescribed. I was admitted late on a Friday afternoon, have more than one serious medical condition, and was told (after the office and medical staff had left) that they (non-medical staff) were taking away two of my medications (one from my cardiologist, another from my pulmonologist) and I was going to have to deal with it until medical staff came in on Monday to address the situation. I checked myself out the next morning.\t\n\t\nIn addition, I was lied to by the business office and had to file a dispute with my credit card company to get back money they had no business taking in the first place. (I did eventually get most of the money back.) They're placing themselves in great risk of tremendous liability; it is inevitable. It's nothing they don't have coming to them, at least from this person's perspective. ...read more

Tampa Teen Forced To Face Addiction After Three DUIs

An 18-year-old from Tampa told police that she did not realize "smoking marijuana and driving would be a DUI" when she was charged with driving under the influence three times in 18 days this past spring. Last week, a prosecutor said that Kimberly McCarthy "doesn't know herself what her substance abuse problems are." Hillsborough County Circuit Judge Lisa Campbell ordered McCarthy into a residential drug treatment program, followed by community service and supervision. McCarthy was lucky to avoid a prison sentence. At one point McCarthy faced two felonies and a bunch of misdemeanors and was denied bail because of her addictions. Judge Campbell told McCarthy that she would remain in jail until a bed could be found in a residential treatment program. After she completes her treatment, McCarthy will serve three years of supervision, two of those three years wearing an ankle monitor. When she finishes the supervision, she will then begin a year of probation. The judge also suspended her driver's license for six months. ...read more

Lawsuit Filed Against CVS/pharmacy

One physician in Orlando is angry about the decision by CVS/pharmacy to not fill pain pill prescriptions from a small group of Florida physicians. The Orlando physician says CVS/pharmacy basically pegged him as a criminal. CVS/pharmacy has more than 700 stores in Florida, and has refused to comment on how or why it compiled the list. Many people, however, have praised CVS/pharmacy for taking a strong position at a time when the fight against prescription drug abuse in Florida is still considered to be at the forefront. "We have informed a small number of Florida physicians that CVS/pharmacy will no longer fill the prescriptions they write for Schedule II narcotics. While we regret any inconvenience this may cause for our customers, we treat the dispensing of controlled substances with the utmost care and seriousness. CVS/pharmacy is unwavering in its compliance and measures to prevent drug abuse and keep controlled substances out of the wrong hands," said CVS/pharmacy spokesman Mike DeAngelis. Dr. Sylvester Hanna owns Wellness Centers USA, an Orlando pain clinic. Hanna filed the defamation suit against CVS/pharmacy, claiming that by Hanna's placement on the list, CVS/pharmacy is falsely implying that he is acting unethically or illegally. ...read more

Makers And Sellers Of Fake Drugs Skirting Bans

Although Florida is continuing the fight against fake marijuana and cocaine (bath salts), many makers and sellers of the fake drugs are skirting state and federal bans of their products and making loads of money. Earlier this year, the Drug Enforcement Administration and Florida legislators banned a long list of chemicals found in both fake marijuana and fake cocaine (bath salts). But manufacturers are changing the chemical compounds just enough to escape the bans."It's a frustrating road," said Special Agent David Gross of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. "These are not traditional drugs...these are chemical substances."There have been 149 overdoses in Florida connected to the fake cocaine(bath salts). Another 374 overdoses, including two deaths, were connected to fake marijuana in the state. ...read more
