Starting a Video Production Company

After spending my childhood vacations camping, hiking and enjoying mother nature, I finally was able to introduce my son to "living" in the great outdoors when he turned 10.  We went back to theGreat Smoky Mountains several times with my fiance (now my husband) and my brothers.  After we watched some videos of the park that my brother, Mark, bought for family Christmas presents, we decided that we could do just as well at showcasing a national park's beauty. We're creative people, familiar with many of the finer points of photography.  So we just needed to educate ourselves about equipment and get started filming the park.  We studied the videos that the Smokies bookstores were offering and decided that our first video would be something they didn't have - amusic videoof the park.  Almost 3 years (and about a dozen trips) later, we finally thought we had gathered enough footage to start editing.  We had wanted this video to cover all four seasons but couldn't get any winter shots.  You have to take what nature gives you when she is your subject.  A couple of days after Christmas I was watching the Weather Channel around lunchtime and exlcaimed, "The Smokies are getting a good snow, who's going to go and film it?"  All 3 of us were dying to go.  We needed to pack, the car needed tires and by 5:00 that evening we were on the road!  We had a great time filming in the snow and it turned out to be one of our most memorable trips.  A few short months later we released our first videoSmoky Images. The Smokies hosts an annualSpring Wildflower Pigrimage in late April that draws thousands of visitors to the park.  And the park didn't have any videos about their wildflowers, either.  By now we were very familiar with the park (I think my brother could've filled in for a park ranger!).  We bought and studied numerous wildflower books and hiked a myriad of trails in different seasons.  We profiled over 60 species native to the park according to trail location and bloom times andSmoky Wildflowers was born.  Check back next time when we'll go underground atAlabama's newest state park.  ...read more
