I will be 67 next month. In Dec 2011, I returned TWO Prism TV boxes, two routers and a box of cords & cables to the Centurylink store on 34th Street, in Ocala, FL \t\nI carried two good size boxes FULL of equipment into that store. \t\nI was tired of waiting for Centurylink to pick it up, as they said they would. I called customer service about it many times. \t\nVery few customer service reps put notes in the system when a customer calls in, so they have no clue about the previous calls......many calls.\t\n\t\nThe employee who took care of me (first station on the right) gave me a receipt for two routers. When I questioned that she said on those product numbers covers all of what I returned. I had no reason to question that. (at that time) I believed her and trusted her. \t\nI had unknowningly left one cord at home & she questioned me on that. I had no clue what she was talking about. Later at home I came across that cord where Centurylink personnel had attached it to the interbet cord for my internet service. \t\nWhen my bill came in I was charged $275 for the TWO Prism boxes (which I had returned) and the missing cord. \t\nI spent an hour and 11 minutes on the phone with Centurylink customer service to try and clear this up...to no avail and they finally said I had to resolve this with that employee at the Ocala store.\t\nNow I don't feel comfortable with that since she already ripped me off for the Prism boxes.\t\nWhere ARE the Prism boxes? At the store? Did she take them home? \t\nDoes this store have a security camera where the police or whoever can pull up that date and see me carrying all that equipment in? I sure hope so. \t\nHow can you feel good about a service company whose employees rip the customers off? and me being on social security and 67 years old. Who can you trust these days?\t\nJeane Cole ...read more

DO NOT BUY PHONES OR SERVICE AT VERIZON. I went into an ocala store at 2606 Southwest 19th Ave Road #200, Ocala and upgraded my phone with a 2 year contract. Within 5 weeks i was given a replacement phone and had to replace this phone 5 times. The management was belligerent and condescending. The only choice i had with each bad phone was the same phone which was a touch screen or another phone that was not a touch screen. All i asked for was another touch screen phone of another company and was denied. My last phone went dead and they had no other phones to give me i was told i had to wait to get the phone in the mail and oh yes no service over the weekend because i had no working phone. The management made it a point to remind me that part of the contract i was to pay for service i don't have in this type of event. Also i had a ton of drop calls in a row and my instant message service did not work all the time. LET THE BUYER BEWARE ...read more

I contacted Lane Communications a few weeks ago and asked for a large cable job to be done in a hurry. We only had 3 weeks before we had o go live and that only gave Lane Communications two days to complete thier work amongst all the construction. They provided a fair price and excellent work. They cleaned up after themselves and everything worked when we went live. We will definatly use them again. ...read more

VoiP is not exactly IP Telephony.

In continuing education about VoiP technology, I feel that it is important to clarify some details about the different ways IP packet effects communications for business today. When I get asked questions about VoiP I always here a bit of confusion regarding what VoiP is and how you save on long distance and how it will do everything including vacuum your floor. and washing the dishes! But let's get into some brass tacks about it. In my mind, Voice over IP does not carry the same meaning as IP Phones or IP Telephony. To me, the Voice over IP is "just" (meaning only) the simple act of moving your voice through a data network (which is all IP address based). The big phone companies have been doing this for years as it costs less to move data across the internet than across their own cumbersome phone switching networks (which are really relics if you ask me, but they are slowly moving over to all data.) Now, IP Telephony is different. To me, IP Telephony is the act of utilizing a special telephone to send and receive data INCLUDING but not limited to Voice "data". So VoiP is the Voice of an IP data network and IP Telephony is the nature of data and a phone system mixed all together. A traditional office phone system is sort of limited when compared to IP Telephony. Traditional key systems use their own signaling to send your voice back and forth from the phones to the phone system and have no infrastructure for sending anything OTHER than your voice. Further, traditional key systems have no provisions for sending a signal to a phone that is not located within enough distance of a phone cable. IP Telephony begins to open some doors and expand the capability of a business phone system. With IP Telephony, the phones are very different. They have an Ethernet port on the back of them AND they use the same network that your computer does. Think of it like this. Instead of plugging your phone into a phone jack you instead plug that phone into your cable modem (just like your computer) That IP telephone uses the exact same network that your computer and cable and dsl and all that stuff run on. The first important thing to realize is that today's networks are 10 /100 / Megabit fast! They can carry a heck of a lot more information a heck of a lot faster than any phone cable and phone system could any day. Today its not uncommon for use busy little Americans to have a computer at home so we can KEEP working even when are not supposed to. We even have devices that seamlessly integrate that computer with your office network so you can get to your files. I'm sure you can already see the ease in concept of extending IP Phones as well, I don't feel I need to say anything further... EXCEPT for the idea of having a soft phone on your laptop :) A soft phone being a piece of software on your laptop that looks like phone. Travel, plug into your hotel's ethernet port, put on a headset and like the Jetsons you are directly connected to home base. NOW, these are only a couple of the benefits of IP Telephony. Yes there are some downsides and YES it is way more complicated that I make it sound.  Of course there is also a Hybrid Phone Systems that uses IP technology and Digtal Phone Technology - This is truly the best of both worlds at Lane Communications we Sell, Service and Support the Cisco and ESI Business Phone System in Ocala, Gainesville and Central Florida. ESI Phone Systems offer a great value, easy to adminster and they will create a more productive and efficient work enviroment. Buying a Business Phone System

Selecting a New Business Phone System can be a daunting task if you are not familiar with the latest terms and features it can get very confusing quickly. One way around this is to talk to a Phone System Dealer that is willing to spend the time with you to really find a solution to your business issues not just sell you some hardware, sell you a "bundled offer - buying dial tone and a phone system all on one monthly bill can be more expensive in the long run, lock you into a multi-year contract and then provide poor service after the sale. Beware these companies do exist, it is also a smart idea to ask them how long they have been selling telephone systems, how many factory trained technicians do they have in Ocala or Gainesville, check their references, call around. Ask about their failures (everyone has them) and then ask how did you correct it? Every company makes mistakes but it is the companies that stand behind there work that are the ones that will be there for your campany when you need them. Here at Lane Communications and Network Services's we will sit with you and really dig down into your business model to find a phone system solution that will work for you today and well into the future. We are Authorized Phone System Dealers for ESI, Avaya and Linksys. We also service Toshiba, Vodavi, Nortel, Samsung and all others. We also design and implement voice and computer networks with trained cabling technicians that clean up after themselves and are concious of there surroundings.
