Sometimes the roof caves in at the worse possible time, just ask the performers at London’s Apollo Theatre. The roof collapsed on December 19, 2013, during the performance of “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time.” Large pieces of plaster and wood dropped down from the theater’s ceiling leaving 80 performance attendees wounded and seven people were seriously injured. London’s Apollo Theatre opened in 1901 and it seems as though the roof hadn’t been properly inspected since. London Officials said that the roof collapse was caused by the deterioration of the century-old cloth and plaster ties. The London Apollo Theatre has been shut down since the roof collapse to avoid another incident. The roof has been renovated and a protective deck was installed under the building’s ceiling. London’s Apollo Theatre is set to reopen Wednesday, March 25 of this year. The Westminster Council said that this incident was an eye-opener for all the other owners of historical buildings in London and how they should make the proper safety checks and precautions.
