Erin helped me feel unstuck in life. She was specific about my emotional blocks. I could relate to them. I could feel the changes a couple of days later to a great extent. She did not drag the session. She is genuine, in my opinion. \nShe is honest and has extreme clarity. However, this was a challenge for me as I can be sensitive and have an overthinking tendency. I feel threatened by extreme clarity due to genuine reasons. That tendency also has reduced. \nI have finished one session, so my energy doesn't feel completely clear and stable. However there is a significant progress. \nI will be taking the other sessions and also her classes to help others. \nI am grateful. I don't mean to promote her work. Do Body-Worn Cameras Improve Police Conduct?
People often act differently when they know they are being watched. In fact, research shows that people act differently if they just feel like they are being watch. It's true. A 2010 study found that the mere presence of posters featuring a pair of eyes made it more likely that people would discard their litter in a self-clearing cafeteria. This phenomenon is often referred to as the Hawthorne or Observer Effect, and it is a primary justification for the use of Body-Worn Cameras (BWCs) by police. Though there is little direct research, a study conducted by the Rialto (California) Police Department suggests that BWCs can have a positive effect on police behavior. All of Rialto's frontline officers participated in the 12-month study. Nine of the 19 weekly shifts were randomly assigned to wear highly-visible BWCs that captured all police-public encounters. Each shift consisted of approximately 10 armed patrol officers who interact with offenders, victims, witnesses and other members of the public. The study produced some promising results. Shifts without BWCs had twice as many Use-of-Force incidents as shifts with BWCs. During the study, 17 of the 25 Use-of-Force incidents involved officers without BWCs. There was an overall reduction from 28 complaints lodged against officers in the 12 months before the study to 3 complaints during the study. Every Use-of-Force incident captured by a BWC involved a subject that was physically abusive or physically resisting arrest. In nearly a third of incidents (5 out of 17), officers without BWCs resorted to Use-of-Force without being physically threatened. In every Use-of-Force incident recorded by a BWC, physical contact was initiated by the subject. Officers without BWCs initiated physical contact in nearly a quarter of incidents involving Use-of-Force (4 out of 17). Though these results appear promising, it's important to remember that this is a single study by a relatively small police department. Though additional research is needed, some believe these results prove that BWCs improve police behavior. Do you? Before answering, consider another possibility suggested by the study's author: Do BWCs improve the behavior of police or those with whom they interact, who also know they are being observed? While there is no certain answer to this question, it is certainly likely that both the police and the citizens policed modify their behaviors when being watched. Technology Solutions for Sexual Assault on College Campuses
Sexual assault at colleges, notwithstanding a minority of false claims, remains a pervasive problem today, and under-reporting by victims, a major hurdle in tackling it. According to a US Department of Justice report published in 2014, only 20% of sexual assaults are disclosed to campus authorities or law enforcement. Furthermore, disclosure of sexual assaults by colleges to federal authorities, as required by law, is under-reported, presenting a two-pronged challenge to improving safety on campus. A study published in the journal Psychology, Public Policy and Law in February, 2015 found that sexual assaults are under-reported to authorities by a number of universities, including those previously fined for violating federal crime reporting requirements. The study analyzed the number of sexual assault cases reported by 31 schools before, during and after federal crime reporting compliance audits by the Department of Education. Not coincidentally, the number of assault cases reporting during the audit, while the colleges were being monitored, actually spiked by 44%, supporting the position that underreporting is prevalent. It has been suggested by some researchers that under-reporting to federal authorities is, in part, an attempt to downplay the safety risks on some campuses in order to avoid the negative publicity and reputation damage that follows such disclosure. This, coupled with the victim’s reluctance to report assaults due to fear of retaliation, and further victimization by an ‘investigation process’ that is intrusive and intimidating, grossly reduces reporting. The consequence of all this dysfunction in reporting suggests the need for a responsive and impartial system that will facilitate reports and provide for a fair investigation, when or if one is requested by the victim.
