Remember Stephany's Chocolates?
They are the reason I've decided to focus on helping our "hometown" business partners. We traveled around the globe helping large companies with great success. Every weekend, I would come home and my wife & I would go to the mall. There was Stephany’s Chocolates. There seemed to be tell-tail signs of problems that, as an experienced business executive and consultant, I could detect even from the outside. I would say to my wife, maybe there is something I can do for them? I thought of all the reasons—the wrong reasons—why a company like that would NOT want to talk with a consultant. Unfortunately we are all too familiar with the tragic story of this very nice local company. Talking to large business was easy, they had tremendous problems that they desperately wanted solved. But small and middle market companies are different. They are usually family owned, have a tremendous sense of pride, and sometimes they don’t always see the cause/effect relationship between what they are doing (or have always done) and their current problems. They don’t always want to ask for help. When they do, they don’t know who to trust. That is why I want to make myself available to the community.
