Doing business used to be mostly focused on growing your business. Today is more about surviving than growing. Getting the word out about your business with the best leverage (cost-to-benefit-$results) ratio and still constraint costs in terms of real dollars spent and time consumed is what we all need to do. Here are a couple of suggestions that I verbalized to my circle of business associates known as "Business Buddies" on Thursday, Feb 19, 2009: First, make a point of thanking those who do business with you who meet or exceed your expectations. This is like fertilizing your garden. "What you send into the lives of others" eventually comes back to you, usually multiplied and leveraged. (Thanks goes to Zig Zigler for that gem) Second: Merchant Circle provides a no- or low-cost vehicle to achieve a web-presence without incurring all the hard-dollar set-up costs. You have a multitude of options that, if nothing else, serves as a check-list of things you CAN do to enhance your business. Third: It provides an easy way to find names, addresses, phone numbers of businesses and business associates from any computer with internet access. I am always flipping through hundreds of business cards to find the name or phone number for an acquaintance. This makes that easy to do. You can find names and opinions of others for the places I have done business in the past. You can make your voice heard. Try it. You might find it works for you.
