AAA Plumbing Service

They charge a ton and expect to charge more to come out and fix the problem they didn't fix the first time they were called out to fix it.\t\nI told AAA my swamp cooler would stop blowing air, especially on hot days - the technician responded with 'That's weird'. I should have sent him away at that remark and called someone who had an idea of what might cause the problem and how to fix it, rather than 'that's weird'. $500 later, my unit was serviced and had a new water line run to it... but now on a hot day when I need it to work, I sit here in a hot house wishing I would have called someone who knows how to service/fix swamp coolers rather than an overall service company. Sadly, after what this company charged me for their initial visit, I may be stuck in a hot house for a long time to come. ...read more

I had my sewer line from house to street cleaned out as a preventive measure to prevent backups from roots. The tech (Zack DeMare) was friendly and efficient. The whole job took about 20 minutes. When I paid the bill he told me I was entitled to a senior discount which was welcomed information! I will call again next year to perform this annual maintenance. Very good experience with this company. ...read more

Start with an Architect

When considering a construction project, whether it be for a small residential addition or for a new building for your business, you can save yourself a lot of wasted effort, time and money if you consult an Architect first. Here are some examples of what can happen when you start the process without an Architect. Many people believe that a set of Pre-Engineered Steel Building plans are the same as Architectural plans. Such plans are actually considered "Shop Drawings" which are always based on Architectural Drawings. If an owner were to actually purchase a Pre-Engineered Steel Building without first having done the Architectural Design, there is a good chance the steel would arrive on-site and be useless without major modifications.Another scenario is that some property owners may believe that they can hire all the Engineering for a building to be done without benefit of an Architect. This is very likely to result in a disorganized and uncoordinated design that would be plagued with constructability problems. Most building department jurisdictions will reject such building plans. The last instance that is commonly seen is where a home owner calls a contractor in to discuss building plans and the construction of the project. Without plans to look at, the builder will generally go find his own Architect to have a set of plans drawn up at his direction or suggest that the owner find their own Architect independently. Either way, the owner will be paying for the production of the plans. In each of the scenarios above it is important to recognize that without an Architect working for you, there will be a far greater chance that things will go wrong. This is not to mention that building codes, cities and counties require Architect involvement in the building design process in many cases. There is a reason for this. Historically and practically, the Architect is the prime designer for any construction project. An Architect, under the program of the owner, conceives the design, presents the design, directs the design, coordinates the design and checks the design in all of its aspects, including engineering. Doing a construction project without an Architect would be like trying to build a wheel without a hub or an orchestra playing music without the conductor and the score. ...read more

Size Up the Situation Before You Buy

If you are a potential buyer of an existing commercial building for the purpose of establishing your business, don't assume the building will be ready to be occupied after a few simple modifications. Consult an Architect prior to making an offer, especially if it is an older building. The new building codes and most building departments can require much more work to be done than you think you need. There are new accessibility requirements for the handicapped, new fire safety issues, mechanical ventilation upgrades and many other building code related issues that crop up. In addition, most cities and counties can require upgrades to the parking lot and the landscaping that you may be unaware of. The design costs and construction costs required to satisfy these codes, regulations and requirements can end up being far more than you expected. Save yourself a lot of grief and have an Architect evaluate your proposed aquisition before making the deal. ...read more

LIFE IMPROVEMENTS IN THESE TIMES

Where you live affects your quality of life. Though you may not be able right now to buy that newer and larger home that you need and want, there is an alternative. Expand and enhance your current home. There are numerous ways to do it from modest to grand. You can add that extra Bedroom (or Living Room) in the back or knock down some walls and raise the ceiling for a new Great Room. You can enhance the exterior appearance partially or completely. Perhaps the answer would be to pop the top and add a second floor. Whatever the solution turns out to be, you can upgrade the energy efficiency, general comfort and health safety of the home at the same time. If all you are doing is window replacement, adding attic insulation, or remodeling the Kitchen and Bath, you probably do not need Architectural services. When things go much beyond this level, that's when you should consider hiring an Architect. Designing and making the plans for the project is critical to a successful outcome. Contractors, Building Officials and most importantly, Owners require them. A recently completed project for a family in Golden encompassed many of these ideas and resulted in a home that is much better suited for entertaining, that is filled with light, takes advantage of views, is more energy efficient and which has much better street appeal.  Consider improving rather than moving. ...read more
