Santa Teresa Academy of Music and Dance

STAMD started off as a very promising school for both my kids for piano and violin. Initially, the teachers were great with providing outstanding support and developing the skills for my 2 kids.\r\n\r\nBut then we started noticing a dreadful pattern of great teachers leaving, followed by a period of "interim" inexperienced piano/violin teachers who were less enthusiastic about actual teaching. Each interim teacher had expected to become permanent, recommending their instruction books to the kids...and then leaving weeks later.\r\n\r\nBut the biggest reason why I couldn't recommend STAMD was the poor communication between the staff. We had notified a number of people at STAMD that we will not be continuing music lessons after Thanksgiving 2018, and had filed the appropriate paperwork. Staff had assured that the paperwork had been processed, and we expected no further charges after November 2018.\r\n\r\nHowever, the charges kept coming until March 2019, when we told the bank to deny any further charges from STAMD. The staff was surprised that the school kept charging us for lesson fees. The signed paperwork that we submitted in November 2018 was suspiciously missing from their files. Plus, a violin teacher had claimed that we had attended lessons in December 2018, when we were out of town. \r\n\r\nOur regret was that during our move, the signed paperwork was lost--and the bank could not force the school to return the fees back to us. \r\n\r\nInstead of STAMD, I would recommend Mike Cozzollino (for piano, 20+ years of experience) and Helen Fujino (for violin, 40 years of experience) at The Music Village on Santa Teresa. Their extensive experience and much more reasonable rates are superior to what STAMD could provide. ...read more
