In my experience, Munoz is incompetent and lazy. He did not explain what was going on in my legal case. I had been charged with domestic violence and had never had any contact with the legal system before. I was scared and uninformed about what to expect. I hired him on a recommendation from someone I barely knew. I don't know how anyone could recommend Munoz unless they were paid to do it.After a plea deal, I consulted with another lawyer to try to get a reality check. This lawyer did not know who I was discussing and, in any event, wouldn't have known him because he was in a different jurisdiction. The lawyer I consulted just shook his head in disbelief when I told him how Munoz handled my case.The overall complaint I have about Munoz is that he seemed to be in cahoots with the prosecutor to get my case over as soon as possible so that everyone could go on to other cases. Munoz did not try to bargain for less jail time for me in the plea agreement. He just told me, "This is what they want." and told me to take it. He didn't suggest that we try for a lower amount of jail time. He charged me $4,000 and put about 8 hours into my case, including driving time. Apart from my payment, he showed no interest in my case and he did not explain to me what was going on in my case. Given the circumstances, I had no way of knowing what to do to help prepare my defense. I am a Disabled Latino Senior. I was referred to Mr. Braxton by the Santa Clara County Bar Association's Modest Means Program for people who are living below the poverty line. I had been doing my own divorce but needed help for a financial settlement part. Mr. Braxton said he would represent me at my CMC (Case Management Conference, Family Court) four weeks hence if I were to pay him $1,500.00 in two weeks (60% of my life's IRA), that there was plenty of time. I did. A week before CMC he had me sign a Attorney Substitution and said he could not represent me after all in one week, the Conference was suddenly far too complicated. He and his "student" acted out a "good cop-bad cop" legal routine right out of Laurel and Hardy. I was disappointed, felt betrayed, used, despaired, confused and disorientated. Me, a poor person with basically zero net-worth trying to keep what little I have? My case was continued. The next Court date Mr. Braxton did not show up. The judge got mad at me. A year and a half has gone by, Mr. Braxton threatening me if I did not pay him another $300.00 for research plus another $2,300.00 to represent me at my next CMC. Sent me an Attorney Substitution form to sign ending our contract or he'd sue me. It has been two years plus since I filed for divorce. He did absolutely zero. He didn't care about me earning $7,000.00/year, all my physical ills, losing my teeth, or my mental suffering and loneliness of losing my best friend (wife).
