This is the closest to a scam you can be and still operate. Do Not Use this service. I contacted Sony to repair a five year old Sony 40 inch flat screen which did not have a picture but four blinking lights on the standby light. I contacted Sony first and Sony recommend one of three repair services authorized by Sony in the Sacramento area. For $95 this company came out looked at the TV, connected a voltage meter, determined there was power and told me that it needed a new mother board at a cost of about $300 for the part. I was told I would be called back with an exact estimate. Two days later I was called back and told it would cost $2,500 to fix a 5 year old TV that cost $900. new. When I asked what happened to the $300 estimate I was told it needed a complete new panel. The panel has not cracks, no breaks and was never mentioned. My parents TV went out, naturally they are older and can't miss an episode of Golden Girls. We called Geek Squad who said they would be out between 12 and 4 on Thursday. We gave them our phone number just in case. \t\nTook the afternoon off work to be there to help answer questions my parents probably wouldn't know about. Decided to call at 2 because we hadn't heard anything. Yes we were on the schedule and should have someone there soon. Called at 4:15 and was told the serviceman couldn't help with a Philips TV so he wouldn't make it. Also showed they tried to come by but we were listed in a different state...huh. 2 more excuses and no apology. They could set us up for next Monday...no thanks. I'll find a guy in the yellow pages that probably needs the work instead of big box chains that don't care about customer service.
