Cure Anorexia... Eat a Cookie! It's amazing to see how many teenagers are constantly trying to "lose weight". It's saddening how these kids are being brainwashed to think that the skinnier you are, the more beautiful you are. It's unbelievable what these same kids will do to get there! I was one of them. I was a survivor of potential anorexia... kinda. I've been on those yo-yo diets- and yes, the one you have tried once before yourself, remember? Miss out on meals, run a gazillion miles each day and go on hunger strikes for days. Throughout the "get skinny" regimen, you're practically tired most of the time, weak from the miles of running and to put it mildly, you become a diva. You barely have time to socialize. And in those rare occasions when you do go out, you order 5 lettuce leaves, a tomato on the side, half a drop of dressing, and your life on the side. But, yeay, you are looking good! And, girl!, at a 100lbs, do you look good in photos. After months of eating lettuce leaves and drowning yourself in cabbage soup, you ought to be. Then one day, you hit the road with your boots on (you have to have boots on, they're heavy and keeps you from being blown away), when you happen to sniff something in the air. What the h! is that?! You follow the scent like Dorothy on the yellow brick road on her way to the magical land of Oz, and stumble upon a bakeshop. Mmm! A deluge of aroma from freshly baked goodies. You panic! (your belly grumbles in delight). What to do, what to do? Your brain tells you no, but your tummy says "yes! and make that two." The unthinkable happens; you buy a dozen cookies to go and a bottle of milk- skimmed, of course, you don't want to ruin your diet. Fast forward and many pounds later, you're back in sweats and jogging pants. Many of us have been through this scenario. And I've actually been thinking about this lately. Society wants us to look good. And to look good, you have to be in fashion, onboard the current trend. Being thin has been, is, and will be THE trend. Right?!.......... I suddenly realized that maybe- just maybe, I've been wrong all along. Being thin was not the answer. Being healthy is! So I started a new regimen. I allowed myself to eat whatever I please but in moderation. And I make sure I get some exercise whenever I can. No need to starve myself or sprain an ankle from everyday running. I guess what I'm saying is, being thin is not bad as long as you are doing it right. Your work-out should not be an obligation or punishment; it should be fun! I find running more enjoyable when I'm doing it to be healthy and fit. That's after I had my dessert, of course. And don't overindulge, save some for tomorrow.
