Creekwood Apartments

1.0

By li wi

Due to illness, I had to remain at Creekwood for about 5 years. It was infested with silverfish. They come out of the holes for the pipes and even out of the light switch covers. Garbage dumpsters are left open attracting raccoons and rats. Car broken into so often, had to leave the doors unlocked and the windows open to prevent constant breaking of windows. Car also vandalized. Arrogant, without reason, managers (not all the staff – but some of them) in the office – very fascists attitude. Arrogant maintenance men. The oldest refrigerator I had seen in decades that was so weird it must have come from USSR in the 50’s and took constant extremely time consuming manual deforsting. Very unfriendly notes left of everyone’s door – apparently don’t know the word “please.” ...read more

Casa Sandoval, LLC

3.0

By Cherie Carlson

Employees are the greatest. Activities offered quite nice. However, the negatives are pretty substantial. This is supposed to be a senior assisted/independent facility. At least 1 of 2 elevators is having problems on a regular basis. The bathroom in the apartments are not equipped adequately for seniors (with bars to help support them or elevated toilet seats) AND the shuttle busses they have for resident transport are not equipped with wheelchair lifts. Doesn't that go against the American's with Disabilities Act? ...read more

Casa Sandoval Discusses Foods That Can Fight Adult-onset Cognitive

Food choices are critical to mental health, assisted living community Casa Sandoval reports. HAYWARD, California – March 19, 2013 –Casa Sandoval, an assisted living community in downtown Hayward, announces several foods that can help keep a senior’s brain active. While there is no known cure for Alzheimer’s, Casa Sandoval maintains that certain foods are thought to help prevent the disease. A hefty dose of these each day may give the mind the boost it needs to circumvent dementia and Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI). Coconut Oil—Coconut oil contains ketones, which were featured in the bookAlzheimer’s Disease: What If There Was a Cure?As Casa Sandoval has found, the book theorizes that ketones helped cure the underlying cause, stated in the book as glucose deprivation. Casa Sandoval stresses that no medical proof exists that coconut oil cures or even improves Alzheimer’s, but that it does have many other health benefits. Walnuts—Scientists have linked walnuts to cognitive function, Casa Sandoval has learned. The nuts were found to improve cognitive function in lab tests and even showed signs of reversing the effects of cognitive aging. Poultry—Chances are your doctor has already stressed the importance of consuming plenty of fish. Casa Sandoval has found that fish is not only good for blood vessels throughout the body, but also is thought to improve the function of blood vessels in the brain. Casa Sandoval suggests eating fish several times a week.  Caffeine— Casa Sandoval was surprised to find caffeine on the list. Studies have shown that those over 65 who consume at least three cups of caffeinated coffee per day are more likely to experience a delay in the onset of dementia. Chocolate—Casa Sandoval finds this one the best of all. Consumption of dark chocolate daily has been shown to reduce dementia risks, reports Casa Sandoval. Chocolate has an ingredient called flavanols, which is linked to a reduction in the risk of dementia.  Casa Sandoval also points out that, if possible, seniors should investigate the possibility of switching to a Mediterranean diet. This diet, which concentrates heavily on fruits and vegetables, legumes, and whole grains and fish, has been linked to a reduction in the speed of cognitive decline, according to Casa Sandoval. Experts believe that a healthy diet in general can improve everything from blood sugar levels to cholesterol which, Casa Sandoval points out, helps the entire body work better. While research into these diseases is still evolving, Casa Sandoval believes proper nutrition can have a positive impact on brain health. By keeping the mind as healthy as possible, seniors can remain sharp and focused for many years to come. Casa Sandovalis a community of more than 200 apartments designed for the 60-plus crowd. All necessary services and activities are on site, allowing seniors to avoid traveling to other areas of town. Casa Sandoval provides a first class dining room, three laundry facilities, and free cable TV service. For those seniors who need to travel, Casa Sandoval also provides transportation. Contact Casa Sandoval by mail at 1200 Russell Way, Hayward, CA 94541, or call 510.727.1700. ...read more
