Getting Rid of Ants Can Be A Challenge Ants can be difficult to eradicate but persistence is the key to a ant-free area. These insects are one of the most common home invaders, typically showing up near kitchen sinks, in the pantry and in the bathtub. The ants most often seen in the kitchen are called sugar ants (aka: House Ants), which are extremely tiny black ants that may not even look like the type of outdoor ant with which you may be familiar. Although there are many types of ants, indoor infestations are almost always sugar ants. Things that attract Ants Ants are attracted to sources of water and loose crumbs. Failing to wipe down the counter and sink in the kitchen even when it seems clean is a common mistake and can lead to troubles with getting rid of ants. The Trail That Only Ants Can See Getting rid of house ants or sugar ants takes time. Ants follow invisible trails of scent, and by wiping down the counter tops you erase these trails even if you can’t see them. When a line of marching ants is seen, it’s especially important to wipe the entire nearby area with clean soap and water, following the trail of ants until you find where they are entering. Wiping the scent trails clean will take persistence, as the ants tend to continue trying to reach their objective. If this proves ineffective, wipe the area with a bit of dish washing liquid mixed with water. The stickiness of the liquid will discourage the ants for quite some time, but nothing is foolproof against the determination of ants to reach sources of water.
