Sometimes these capret stains can seem daunting and or near impossible to get out. However, the professionals here at All Points want to pass-on a few tips when dealing with spills and carpet stains that can help: 1. Spills or stains on a carpet should never be rubbed rashly as this may only spread the stain and may cause it to become permanent. Rubbing may also weaken the carpet fiber causing it to wear out sooner. 2. Stains that are not treated quickly and correctly will most likely re-appear at the surface of your carpet. It will not take long for the stain that you thought was cleaned and gone to re-appear on the surface of your rug. To prevent this from happening, you should cover the stain with a thick cloth and weigh it down with something heavy for 8 to 12 hours. This will allow the cloth to absorb the stain and allow you to clean as usual. 3. A thorough carpet cleaning should be done at least every six months to a year. While steam cleaning your carpets will get them clean, it will also flood your carpet and pad with too much water. It usually takes 1 to 2 days for a steam cleaned carpet to dry. During this time, water will continue to "wick" to the surface of your carpet and it can capture dirt and other contaminants from the air as it dries. Chem-dry uses the "The Natural" a proprietary carpet cleaning solution that is non-toxic and safe for kids and pets. Our cleaning mixture lifts dirt to the surface where it is removed by the cleaning unit. We use less water and your carpets can dry in 1 to 2 hours instead of days. To have a clean carpet, you need to have it either cleaned by a professional carpet cleaner or you will need to use a deep cleaning machine. There are advantages as well as disadvantages to each of these choices. 4. Inspect your carpet for spills and take care of them quickly to maintain a clean carpet. Water can help resolve most spills. And, if that doesn't work, expand your search for other options. You will find several products on the market that can help you to get rid of spills quickly. You can also use a mixture of water and vinegar to help you keep the stains out. Taking immediate action can help to prevent spills from becoming stains leaving you with a clean carpet. 5. Take the time to vacuum often enough and make sure to do it correctly. That means going over the floor in several directions to allow the vacuum to pick up all the debris it can. A high quality vacuum is the best choice. Make sure to use it correctly as you are directed by the manufacturer. Also, make sure to keep the bags or containers empty and filters clean as well. 6. The easiest way to keep your carpets clean is the proper use of an entrance mat. An entrance mat will help clean off people's shoes and will keep most of the tracked in soils off the carpet surfaces. When using entrance mats there are two very important considerations for making them as effective as possible. The first is the mat must be long enough length should be between 6 to 12 feet long, with 10 to 12 feet long being the best. There also needs to be mats placed outside your home or building. These will remove the larger particles of soil. The second is they must be cleaned on a regular basis before they reach the point of total saturation. When a mat reaches this point it can no longer hold the soils and they end up spilling onto the floor it is protecting. Monitoring areas outside your home or building and well positioned entrance mats are ways we can prevent most of the soils from entering the house or building. No matter how efficient your protective maintenance is, a certain amount of soil will get in. 7. About 80% of soils in your carpet enter a building or house are dry. The remaining 20% are oils, greases and starches. The dry soils are easily removed by vacuuming and as long as they are removed on a daily basis it will help minimize the damage. Routine cleaning of your carpets is necessary to not only remove allergens but to also prevent organisms such as carpet-beetles and carpet bugs from living in your carpet.
