Hi, everyone in web Land - this is Dr Eric Shreder - owner of Full Circle Heath in Mesa Arizona
I have been asked this question by many patients

Is Botox safe - are there side effects?

Botox is the most popular Cosmetic procedure done - period with millions upon millions of procedures recorded! Because it was the first, and so well known, I will use this term "Botox" to  refer to the class of all neuromodulators (i.e., xeomin, dysport and Botox).

In a nutshell - with an emphatic "yes", Botox is safe for most people! There are, however a subset of individuals where the use of Botox would be ill advised - those allergic to ANY of the botulinum products, pregnant patients, those breastfeeding and those with various established neuromuscular diseases (ALS, Lou Gehrig's disease etc.), and those with an skin infection at the site of injection.

The primary medical concern has been distant spread of the material to the muscles of the eyes and throat, and or the muscle related to breathing, and swallowing. This has occurred usually with extremely high doses!
However, there has not been a confirmed serious case of spread of toxin effect when BOTOX® Cosmetic has been used at the recommended dose to treat frown lines, crow’s feet lines, or both at the same time. Pretty safe.

Of course there can be minor side effects such as bruising and pain at the site of injection, but these are relatively minor and infrequent. These are very temporary and more of an annoyance that a true concern.
What I personally heard from patients is there is another "side effect" they are mainly concerned about that of  looking - well - "weird" "plastic" "frozen"

I can definitively answer that concern - training, training, training, and years of experience. Are they listed on the manufacturers website? Do they use "real" product? Or Knock -off?  Do they have an eye for  facial symmetry and beauty? Keep this in mind -  It's not just price per unit that you are paying for - it's for the experience and keen eye of the injector and the final outcome. The difference between looking "plastic" or "refreshed".

So if you have always wanted to try it - relax, its safe, see what you have been missing!
Well, that's all for now. Dr Shreder signing off.
