I love spending time with family and this year will be lonely because we don't have money to spend or travel at all this year.My favorite holiday memory was when I went to Lake Tahoe with my kids andtheir grandparents. It was a lot of fun and because the grandparentshad money (i was a single parent at the time, very little money onceagain), so we enjoyed the snow, skiing for the first time and basicallyjust being able to do stuff. It's amazing what having money can do.Another favorite memory was when I was a single parent and just started goingto church. I wanted to make sure my children knew that helping the lessfortunate was always important, so we prepared a bunch of sack lunchesand went and delivered them ourselves one Christmas morning. It felt soright, to be able to do that, and to also teach my children this.Another thing that we did was prepare wrapped gifts for homelesspeople., small things like toiletries, socks, mittens, brushes, etc.They were so appreciated, and the fact that they were wrapped made itespecially fun to do. Most people forget about the homeless in theircommunity, and although many could help themselves, there are so manymore that will basically spend the rest of their days homeless. We havea homeless ministry in our church and what we always said was it is noshame to be poor, it is a shame what happens to people who allow sin torule their lives, but being without a roof is not a shameful thing,Jesus was also without a place to lay his head.MOST favorite and MOST important memory is always centered around Jesus. We read thebible story every year with my kid's (now all grown up), but it isalways important for us to do this, so that the meaning of the holidayis not lost on shopping, buying and receiving gifts. The most importantaspect of Christmas is to remember the most important Gift Giver andthat is God our Creator, who came in human form and gave himself as asacrifice for our sins.
