Times are changing, so are we

There comes a time when change is good.  The Elbert Research Corporation's website is undergoing a face lift and the projected date for activation is the third week of February. The benefits of the new site are going to give the viewers a more comprehensive knowledge base of our standard line of products and a more accurate detailing of our expertise in the field.  Not to mention a new look and feel.  It's like buying a new set of clothes for the website...and who doesn't like a new set of clothes?       Designing a website, as easy as a lot of the design companies like to portray, isn't as easy as many people would like.  To begin with, you have a plethora of options out there on the web from professional website designers, to students who need to build their portfolio, (hold on while I answer this phone call) to pondering what kind of feel you'd like the site to have, and wondering about what kind of feel will attract the most potential clients, and from left field comes who's going to host your website?  What's a "host" anyway?  From what www.writerswebsiteplanner.com says, a host is: "...a business that maintains computers that store website files and make them available to Internet users through connection to the Internet."  Now, to many computer gurus out there, this isn't news at all.  (By the way, my hat goes off to you guys and gals that keep us non-techies informed and involoved with the Internet.)  A host reminds me of something to do with mosquito bites...       As you know, daily life doesn't get any easier and throwing the website transformation into the conglomeration is like handing someone a stick and requesting that they time it right and throw it into your spokes as you come by, pedaling-like-a-demon.  Alas, I've discovered this is called "marketing" ... and people make a living doing this!  A fledgling marketer myself, this has been a road full of new ideas and wisdom, with some frustration-laden cups of coffee being consumed, and of renewed discovery of why this field of expertise is so exciting.  And one also has an ever-expanding list of acronymns to keep track of: ROI, SEO, PPC, HTML, etc etc.  Plus, what's this cloud-computing everyone refers to?  Should you pay to have someone else do the marketing or is it a surmountable task?  I must admit that I'm hooked into the marketing patch-work quilt.  Learning something new every day is not only intriguing but it really helps to acheive a fundamental understanding of the company in which you find yourself.       With this being said, stick around to see the new launch of our redesigned website.  Let us know what you think!  www.elbertresearch.com ...read more

Well into Fall

As another week finishes, things are looking up!  With the economy officially out of its rut and the confirmation of our client's project, they certainly are.     We've been hard at work trying to price out our prototypes so as to meet our project's deadline and whilst on the lookout for upstanding products, I've stumbled upon MicoChip's website.  What a joy to use!  I'd recommend visiting just to see the layout and the beautifully designed product pages that puts the information you may need right at your fingertips while also offering the data sheets for anything you're curious about right there for immediate download.  Simple as eating pie...      If you haven't already heard, GlobalSpec is also an excellent place to receive up-to-date information on newly released products and/or data sheets, a pretty spectacular weekly e-newsletter data base that's delivered to your inbox with wonderful Did-You-Know and Technical articles.  (For a newcomer to the semiconductor industry, it has been helpful in so many ways!)  For instance, although this may be old news to many, one of the featured articles for the week has to do with quartz crystal basics.  Not only does it give a brief history of how it came into being/use, it goes on to explain the technology itself in a non-dry way.  Moreover it provides charts of the technical aspects unique to the crystal as well as equivalent parameters of a crystal unit. Interesting? ...you bet!     To view this quick read yourself, it's attached to GlobalSpec's Semiconductors e-newsletter for this week.     Have a wonderful weekend! ...read more
