How to Build a Link Wheel for Search Engine Optimization

Building links to a personal blog or website is a powerful way to increase a website’s traffic and standings in search engine results. One technique for building links for search-engine optimization purposes is a link wheel. This involves creating many articles that contain links pointing to each other.

1.       Create a complete website that is optimized for the keywords of your choice. Once the website is established and optimized, begin the link-building process.

2.       Sign up for several websites that allow writers to publish articles. These websites can include article directories, free blogging platforms and even social networking websites.

3.       Write one article and publish it on the platform of your choice. Within the text of the article, include a link to your website. Use anchor text related to your website’s keyword for this link, instead of posting a raw link.

4.       Create a diagram of your link wheel. In the center of the wheel is your first article. This article has a link pointing to your website, so draw an arrow from this center area to a box off to the side labeled with your website name.

5.       Decide how many websites you will use to publish link wheel articles. For this example, assume you will publish to four total article directories. The first article directory is where you published your first article, and is the center of the wheel.

6.       Draw three boxes around the center box and label them with article directory names. Draw an arrow from each box to the box in front of it to create a wheel. In addition to the arrows pointing forward to the next box, draw an arrow from each box to the center box.

7.       Follow this diagram to help understand where you will post each article and where the links within the article will point. Each subsequent article after your first article will include links that point to the directory in front of it, as well as the central article. Once you publish an article on each directory and include two links to the appropriate places, your link wheel is complete.
