The CR-21 license I was applying for required a trade exam, I was skeptical at their training style/content, simply because it has few questions. But after emailing Amber back and forth throughout my studying with questions & concerns here and there, I felt so much better. I started getting 100% on the practice exams after about only an hour or so of taking them, it was crazy to me I was retaining the information so quickly, but Amber reassured me that that is exactly how easy, simple & quickly their practice exams worked. I took my real trade exam within a week of starting the practice exams, and I passed! I was then introduced to Patti who helped me with that entire process. We paid Henry for supplies to do a shower remodel. He took our money and didn't come do the work. When we asked him, he said he deposited the money, then other things cleared from his account. So, essentially, he spent the money we gave him for supplies on other things. He kept promising to come in and pay us back, but those were all lies. I would give ZERO stars if that was an option. There are many reasons why you may take the general contractors test but later decide to apply for a remodeling license instead: the cost of getting the general contractors license and bonds is greater than the remodeling although you have the experience for the general contractors license, the only verification you can get will only qualify you for the remodeling license (due to closed businesses, employer refusing to verify, out of state, etc.) the economy and construction industry is more profitable in the remodeling sector than new construction Unfortunately, you will need to test again if you took the general contractors test and wish to apply for the remodeling license. The Arizona Registrar of Contractors has determined that remodeling applications must contain passing exams for the remodeling license (B-3/CR-61) and they will no longer accept the B/B-2/KB-2 test scores for a remodeling application. If you wish to avoid retesting, you will need to apply for the general contractors license, get the appropriate size bond and pay the correct license fees. ...read more

In order to work legally in AZ as a contractor you must either work as a W-2 employee of a licensed contractor or become a AZ licensed contractor. After determining the license you need and whether you meet the requirements, you must take and pass tests. Every contractor seeking an AZ contractor's license must take and pass a Contractor's Business Management test. This test includes subjects such as: taxes, liens, bonding, insurance, OSHA, accounting and more. Some licenses may also require the applicant to take and pass a trade exam in addition to the contractor's business management test. The trade test will have questions specific to the trade and test the applicant's knowledge of the code. The tests are partial open book tests. The books allowed in the test do not cover all the material covered on the test and using only the books allowed in the test will make it difficult to pass the test. Code books are also hard to read from cover to cover making it more difficult to study efficiently. Being able to look items up in the books as reference is the key to success.
