When i went into the store to cash my check the girls all said hello and all asked if they could help me. I was surprised how they all showed me attention and wanted to help even though they had no idea what i was there for. The girl who helped me was very nice asked me if I needed any FREE money orders and was nice throughout the whole process. Your Merchant Processor Should Have Priced You Right the First Time!

A smart business owner will always shop for the best price and conduct an independent search to identify the right product or provider of a given service; it only makes sense. Assuming that is true, we see way too many merchant processors that are more than willing to offer a credit card processing rate reduction only after being confronted with a better quote from another credit card processing company and the threat of losing the business. Giving the best price up front eliminates the likelihood of being undercut and installs confidence in their merchants when shopping for a better rate. Combine the best merchant account pricing structure withgreat customer serviceand proper education and watch your retention rate sore. It̢۪s no wonder why the national average for a business merchant processing relationship is a year and half. ...read more

Is the Durbin Amendment working for Your Debit Card Processing?

If processing debit cards for business payments is part of your daily operation, 10/1/2011 was a great day for you.  On that date the Durbin Amendment went in to effect and dramatically slashed the amount of money business owners were required to pay for the merchant processing of debit cards.  An estimated 40% in savings was created for business owners as a result of the Durbin Amendment and many more business owners have seen much more than that. There is a catch.  A business owner would have to be on theInterchange Plus pricing structurein order to reap the reward.  Given that most small and medium sized business owners are on the Tiered Pricing model, it’s up to the business owner to perform his or her own due diligence.  Merchant Processors aren’t likely to show you their hand unless it is forced and too many are not proactively educating their clients on saving money to begin with… ...read more

Business Credit Card Processing: Swiped vs. Hand Keyed Transactions...

If you don’t know the difference in price between the two, here’s the deal. Every credit card transaction will have a level of risk associated with it. The amount you pay for processing per transaction will be determined by that level of risk. Because a swiped credit card transaction will include a signature and it is considered “Card Present” the level of risk associated with that credit card transaction is minimal. A hand keyed credit card transaction will always have a level of risk far greater than that of a swiped. At both ends of the spectrum, the variation in cost between the two types of transactions can be as much as 1%. Therefore, whenever possible avoid hand keyed transactions. As side note, many businesses such as tradesmen, plumbers, HVAC, electrical and pest control have made it a practice to hand key the credit card transaction upon returning to the office. Technology has come a long way and mobile devices now exist that allow for swiped transactions to take place on the go. Check in to it if your business fits this description. You just might be leaving dollars on the table… ...read more
