Chiropractic Treatment of Migraines

Cornerstone Wellness recommends chiropractic adjustments for migraine sufferers who have yet to find relief. Chiropractic treatment will not cure migraines, but it is one of the few ways to be proactive against migraines and help prevent them. In someone prone to migraine episodes, a trigger can often be a misalignment, or subluxation of the spine. Migraines can begin with tension in the neck, but even patients without migraines find keeping their neck free of kinks helps improve frequent headaches. Dysfunctional vertebrae in the neck can cause increased muscle tension and interrupt the nerves that control blood flow to the brain. Chiropractic adjustments relieve the pressure and tension that results in headaches, and keep the spine aligned to help it function at its best. The exact cause of migraines is unknown, but most theories acknowledge an interruption in either nerve activity, blood flow to the brain, or both. Regular chiropractic adjustments also help facilitate healthy blood flow and nerve function. For a chronic migraine sufferer it may take weeks of consistent adjustments, but patients will experience a significant improvement in migraine frequency, intensity, or both. Improving alignment of the bones in the neck and spine can prevent headaches and migraines, and adjustments also keep the body in balance.  Adjustments are a safe way to relieve tension and decrease the intensity and frequency of migraines without medication. To learn more about the services we provide at the practice, visit www.cswellnesscenter.com for more information. Sports Injuries and Chiropractic Treatment

More professional athletes are turning to chiropractors than ever. Medical doctors tend to treat a sports injury by alleviating symptoms with medication and recommending rest from activity. At Cornerstone Wellness Center, Dr. Nathan Grinder D.C. and Dr. Clay Warren D.C. have an approach to rehabilitating sports injuries takes the rest of the body and its natural ability to heal itself into account. This always results in less time ‘benched’ from activity and a quicker recovery. You don’t need to be a professional athlete to rehabilitate a sports injury the right way. If you or your family members are involved in sports, a chiropractor can help you too. Rather than prescription medication and rest from activity, a chiropractor will focus on repairing any damage to hard and soft tissue with chiropractic adjustments to   the spine and extremities. If you are in pain from an injury, of course your chiropractor will advise the best pain relief strategy for you. However, your only prescription will likely include physical therapy exercises for you to perform on your own. Start rehabbing sports injuries with your chiropractor now for a lifetime of healthy activity! Your Headache Guide

Does your head hurt? Do you have migraines?  Do you have headaches more than once a month? Have you tried everything from ibuprofen, and aspirin, to even changing your pillow at night? You might be trying to fix the wrong type headache! Few examples of different types of headaches Migraines are very painful ad common. Though there are many types of migraines, typically we can put them into two categories. A common migraine does not have an aura and no warning signs.  The symptoms of a classic migraine can last anywhere from ten minutes to one hour.  Most migraines tend to be located on one side of the head and can lead to pain in the eyes, and can be aggravated by bright lights, or loud sounds.  Sometimes migraines can be brought on by a type of food someone eats, or a deficiency in certain vitamins and minerals. Tension Headaches This is the most common type of headache.  They are experienced by up to 80% of people.  A tension headache is a very specific type of headache related to tension in the muscles surround the head and neck.  Tension headaches are very common and can range greatly in their severity.   These headaches usually have a gradual onset and bring tenderness to the head, and muscles of the neck.  They also can be attributed to the continual amounts of stress in a person’s everyday life.  As people get more stressed, they carry more tension in their shoulders and neck.  It should also be noted that poor posture can cause tension headaches as well!   As our generation continues to droop their heads while looking at text messages, snapping selfies, and surf the web – we are continually adding stress to the muscles of the neck and upper back, which are leading factors to the cause of tension headaches. Cluster headaches Cluster headaches can wake you up at night and be very debilitating.  They tend to reoccur over and over again for a period of weeks, and are limited to one side of the head.  They usually last between 15 minutes to 3 hours long and can reoccur up to 8 times a day.  Men are much more likely to receive cluster headaches. These types of headaches can also show pain that travels across the forehead, down the face, and even to the gum line and lips. What can help my headache? Recent evidence proves that chiropractic care is one of the leading causes to combatting headaches!  Chiropractic adjustments help the nervous system stay healthy and fight poor posture.   Chiropractors can also help retrain the overactive muscles of the neck and upper back which can cause some headaches.  We are well equipped to treat various types of headaches and properly trained to diagnose your issue. We then formulate a proper treatment plan to reduce the frequency and severity of your headaches, and even eliminate them completely! Massage Therapists: Come get a massage! Massages are stress relieving and feel good.  Licensed massage therapists are skilled workers who can work out all that tension and stress anytime you feel it building up.  Getting a massage is a great way to treat your headache! Keep a diet and lifestyle Journal:  Keeping a journal of the things you eat and do will track what things might trigger your headache.  If there are vitamin deficiencies in your diet your local chiropractor can point those things out to you with a simple office visit, and help you manage a strategy to combat your pain.
