StuBBing My TOE on Purpose

Imagine a journey so fantastic that you are spirited away for decades before you know it. You spend a lifetime amidst serendipitous and surreal events you dare not speak about publicly. It sounds incredulous when you explain it, yet it happened. Shortly after he was told about his adoption, a young boy hears a voice after pondering its meaning. “Hey You!” it calls out from the darkness. Is he insane, sensitive or just wants a friend? His spiritual path begins to unfold. So starts his journey into mayhem and mystery, a magical mystery tour with no one to guide him, at least in the physical world. He crosses into many worlds in the years to come, curious and fearless in his exploration. Even his testimony of Jesus Christ is beyond this world. Decades later he is given information that rocks his world, causing him to question everything he knows. The events that take place afterward span three continents and off-planet personalities. Are you curious? What he learns causes him to question the very nature of reality, both science and spirituality. It is hard to imagine what one person has found after six decades. 'Spooky action' at a distance takes on a whole new meaning.  You’ll be captivated as you read, not knowing what crazy experience of amazing insight might be on the next page. You will enter a new world order with Zen as your guide. You will never see life on Earth and 'elsewhere' the same. Everything is sacred yet nothing is sacred in the quest to construct a theory of everything. Somewhere there is a path that is... on purpose. Curious?Get it today ...read more

Divorce Coping Skills for Children

The holidays are over and often at this time relationships are reevaluated.  The relationship is looked at in  a different perspective. Children often are impacted by major decisions. Children will need to gain coping skills if a divorce is to occur. Children need to have their feelings normalized, expressed, have creative outlets for emotions, have support and monitored closely. When  a divorce occurs, children have many different emotions. Children often internalize their emotions and blame themselves for their parent's relationship ending in divorce. The process of divorce is difficult on children because usually a parent's feeling of shame is projected onto children. This can be done when a parent labels a child (name calling), blames them for the failure in their life (substance abuse, job, relationship), medical and mental health concerns. It is important to have a child talk about those feelings and express to the child that it is normal to feel that way. Children need to have their emotions expressed during a divorce. The need for children to express themselves is important as they can develop "frozen feelings". Frozen feelings occur in when a child feels hopeless and helpless. This is often seen in abuse. Children will begin to "unfreeze" their feelings if a  primary care giver expresses empathy towards a child. A primary giver needs to validate feelings, not try to correct them, and use validation. Children need a least 30 minutes to communicate  how they feel with a trusted adult every day and a primary care giver should plan this time every day. There is no single more important question t to ask than, "How was your day?"  Children need to have creative outlets for expression. There are times when a child does not know how to express how they feel. The often are quite confused and lack the emotional vocabulary to express themselves. Children might be locked into " left brain thinking." Left brain thinking is very concrete, rational, and is always analyzing. The coping skill for a child to develop is more "right brain thinking." The right side of the brain is linked to creativity, subjectivity, and looks at the bigger picture. A child could draw, write, use clay, and imagination in a number of ways of  that are creative to express themselves.  Children need support during a divorce and need to be closely monitored. Children greatly benefit from counseling or divorce groups. This takes away feelings of being alone and removes shame. Children need adults in their lives that they can trust , will not abandon them, and will promote growth. A primary care giver would benefit from having someone who can help monitor chldren and enhance coping skills. Divorce is a difficult time for children. Children are learning to express emotions and quite often have difficulties learning to trust again. The transition period for the family is a difficult one but when a child is able to express themself, validated for what they feel, have creative outlets, and support the task can be accomplished.   Written by Ronald Gluff Licensed Professional Counselor www.ronglufflpc.com   ...read more

Adolescents and the danger of technology

The technology revolution continues to thrive in America. Advances in technology are  at a record pace.  Services, products, and information are more avaible than ever before. Technology is at the heart of change for adolescents. These advances are creating dangers of: increase in addiction, poor impulse control, increased secretive behaviors, poorer academic and work performance, and decreasing the quality of relationships.Addiction and poor impulse control is increasing in adolescents. The new diagnosic and statistical manual for psychology is adding new psychtriac diagnosises for addiction in areas of technology. Addiction is created when there are  impairments in one's life in legal, work, family, relationships, medical and academic areas. The need to be wanted and liked is the motivation for youths to act in self-destructive acts . Due to the brain not being fully matured until the age of 24-25 years for individuals, the potential for poor impulsive controls and decisons increase. The book, Driven to Destraction by Ratey and Hallowell, is  a book that highlights the  difficulties that adolescents face and the increase in ADHD. Parents must monitor online activities and possible impairments in their child's life from a legal, work, famly, relationship, medical, and academic areas. Technology has produced more secretive behaviors in adolescents. There has been a increase of "mask wearing" in this age group. Mask wearing is presented in many ways and some examples are :the good girl, the macot, the lost child, and the perfect child. Masks are worn when addiction is present. Technology allows someone to be anyone they want to be and so are potential predators. Individuals who have grown up in a home that has addiction present are even further at risk. Parents need to talk to children, their friends and their parents, teachers, and anyone who has contact with their child in order to protect adolescents. Work performance and academic performance have decreased due to technology. Individuals are looking for short cuts and ways to be the best at work or school. There is enoromous levels of peer pressure and adolescents have a high level of external locus of control in their lives.  There has been increase in plagerism, oppositional defiant diagnois, and punitive measures. It is important that parents are positive role models for their children. Parents need to model the behavior that they want in the children. Parents need to use positive reinforcement when their child acts in a mature manor .  Relationships are suffering due to technology. The need to have open communication without technology present is needed for  a healhy relationship. Healthy relationships are based on communication. Iphones, computers, i-pads all destract from the message of the messenger. The reciever must be able to responsd to requests  attentively or this will impact the quality of relationships.  Technology is advancing faster than ever. Adolescents are the target population for these advances. Technology advances are not always positive. It is important for parents to understand the advances and the dangers that are present. Counseling is an excellent intervention that can change conflict in families and help them overcome difficulites.   ...read more
