How to Apply Makeup for Clowns

Clowns are traditionally the ones who make the crowd laugh. They wear clothes that are bright and oversized along with a brightly colored wig or hat. Clown makeup is the finishing touch, and should be applied in a manner that accents your prominent features in a fun and festive way.

  1. Decide on the style of clown makeup that you would like to use. There are happy clowns and sad clowns, so you need to decide which one you would like to be before applying your clown makeup. If you are unsure use the Internet to perform a search using the keywords "clown photos."

  2. Browse through the pictures that you find online to help you decide which style is best for you as well as the different colors you would like to use when applying the clown makeup to your face.

  3. Put on a old towel or robe while applying the clown makeup to protect your clown costume or clothing from getting makeup on it during the application process.

  4. Use a makeup sponge to apply a thin layer of white to the entire surface of your face. If you do not want to use a makeup sponge, your fingertips can also be used to apply the white base to your face as well. Ensure that the paint is well blended so that it is smooth and even.

  5. Use face paint crayons, or a makeup brush and the desired color face paint to add the accents to your clown face. You can use red to accent your mouth either in a happy or sad face depending on your preference.

  6. Use black face paint to accentuate your eyebrows so that they are overly arched.

  7. Add red face paint to your cheeks in the shape that you prefer to accent your cheekbones. Use a shape that compliments the natural shape of your face.

  8. Add small festive designs such as a heart or other shape at the corners of your eyes using a fine tip paint bush to ensure accuracy.

  9. Apply baby powder to the surface of your freshly painted face using a makeup brush. This will set your clown makeup and keep it in place until you are ready to remove it.
