This is totally a personal preference, however, it seems the current trend is to paint them a color. Painting them a darker color tends to make your room look smaller. We've found that if you paint them 25% to 50% of the wall color shade, this will warm up the room without making it looked closed in. Of course, the great thing with painting, if you decideyou dont like it, it doesnt cost that much to change it! Happy painting!!!

Yes.. Paint them white. Whatever trend is espoused below, in a few years it will be dated. You cannot ever go wrong with appealing to the largest market. Keep your colors on your wall unless you plan on redoing them whenever you've got to sell.

Even ten years ago the answer would be: of course, what other color would you paint a ceiling. But, contemporary design increasing includes repainting ceilings to match or complement wall color(s). Ultimately, it will be a matter of personal preference, but I can tell you that we repaint as many as one third of all ceilings to match or complement wall color(s). And, you can count me as a fan of the trend!

White ceilings would look great if you have a bold contrasting color on the walls. It would also create the illusion of higher ceilings and make your rooms appear more spacious and open. Depending on the color on the walls you can also paint your ceiling a shade of white that is 3 times lighter than your walls. That will accentuate the color on the walls and give your rooms more warmth and ambience with some contrast.

This is a very popular question among our customers. As some of the other answers indicate white ceilings give definition to the room they make rooms appear large in size and add light to darker rooms. If the room sizes are small like 10x8 or smaller you should always go with white ceilings for as said above it will make the room appear larger. Painting your ceilings white has been a very popular trend here in Michigan for about 8 yeras now. We are however seeing a shift in the trend to light color tones that are actually a shade of the wall color, this gives the room a softer feel to it. Ultimately there is no right or wrong answer, it all depends on what you look you are trying to achieve, I would recommend white ceilings for a bright more stark look or paint the ceilings a couple shades light than your walls for a warmer, softer look. Good Luck.

The color of your ceilings actually affect the color of the light in your room, since most of the light in a typical room is purposely reflected off of the ceiling. White ceilings create a cleaner, whiter light that enhances the colors in a room instead of changing the colors in a room.

We always use Sherwin Williams Flat White with good results. The flat finish hides flaws in the ceiling and dries uniform without multiple coats. Another tip...Do not tint the paint when you buy it, that way you can return unused gallons. BT Fleishour since 1897.

I usually say paint the ceilling 1/3 tint or the wall color. It is a feature in the room too and often has a light fixture on it. Leaving it white is fine but make sure it is a more cream white than a grey white for as much enhancement as possible. I have seen homes where only the ceilings where painted and walls left white and it worked. It depends on your home, your decor and style, paint colors selected and size of room.
