What is DHA and is it safe?
(DHA) is a simple three carbon sugar which is derived from a vegetable source, non toxic in nature. The active ingredient DHA, has been FDA approved for 30 years and has no allergic reports. Its use as tanning solution originates from raw sugar cane and fermentation of glycerin and comes in a form of a white powder. After a session all the action and reactions occur at the epidermis level, where the skin cells are dead. DHA once applied reacts with the amino acids contained in the dead skin cells to give rise to the brown pigment called melanoidin. The DHA reacts with the amino acids in the outer layers (epidermis) of your skin. The reaction develops a beautiful golden tan and will look natural and fade naturally as if it came from the sun. It is UV free, 100% all natural, and healthy.Answered by cancel this subscription Colorado Springs, CO, 80923, 555-555-5555 (Novice with 2 pts.)

Below is an article from the Mayo Clinic stating that Sunless Tanning is safe and describing exactly what a Sunless Tan is.
Sunless tanning: A safe alternative to sunbathing
Sunless tanning is a practical alternative to sunbathing. Find out how sunless tanning products work, including possible risks and how to get the best results.
By Mayo Clinic staff
Don't want to expose your skin to the sun's damaging rays, but don't want to miss out on that sun-kissed glow? Consider striking a compromise with sunless tanning products. Start by understanding how sunless tanning products work — and the importance of applying them correctly and carefully.
How do sunless tanning products work?
Sunless tanning products, also called self-tanners, can give your skin a tanned look without exposing it to harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays. Sunless tanning products are commonly sold as creams, gels, lotions and sprays you apply to your skin. Professional spray-on tanning also is available at many salons, spas and tanning businesses.
The active ingredient in most sunless tanning products is dihydroxyacetone (DHA). When applied to the skin, DHA reacts with dead cells in the outermost layer of skin to temporarily darken the skin's appearance. The coloring doesn't wash off, but it gradually fades as the dead skin cells slough off — typically within a few days.
Most sunless tanning products don't contain sunscreen. If you spend time outdoors, sunscreen remains essential.Answered by Tan Utopia Spa 11925 Sheldon Road, Tampa, FL, 33626, 813-855-6655 (Novice with 8 pts.)

We have sprayed ages from 12 to 87 for 5 years and have had zero problems. You need to follow before and after instructions and if someone is spraying you without instructing you first I would be cautious. Also watch for mobile Airbrush that are not affiliated with a salon they probably aren't health inspected. Buyer do your homework.

Short Answer: Yes! Long Answer: DHA, the main active ingredient in spray solutions, has been approved for cosmetic use by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). It is considered nontoxic and non carcinogenic. DHA does not damage the skin, and is considered a safe skin coloring agent and nutritional supplement. DHA based sunless tanning has been recommended by the Skin Cancer Organization, American Academy of Dermatology, Canadian Dermatology Association, The American Cancer Society and the American Medical Association. There some link to more info as well. Hope this helps!

The FDA has tested DHA (Dihydroxyactetone) for topical application and has approved it as safe. Therefor the FDA has recommended safety gear to prevent it from entering the body; such as lip balm, nose filters, disposable panties, and eye covers (such as Winkies). DHA was discovered in the early 1920's, and is a carbohydrate compound; which is drived from vegetable sources like beets or sugar cane. As well DHA is used as a dietary supplement, and is less toxic than aspirin, caffeine, and even common table salt. DHA has a health risk rating of 0-minimal. DHA causes an amino acids and proteins reaction in our skin and each persons individual skin makeup determines their reaction the the DHA. Although very few have discovered allergic reactions to DHA, this is the same main ingredient used in bronzing tanning lotions
testing just a small area of your skin before applying is advised.

The active ingredient in spray tanning solutions is DHA. It is found in nearly all foundations (makeup). It's completely safe. I have been professionally spray tanning clients for a very long time and have never had anyone have a reaction to the solutions. It's much safer than the sun or a tanning bed.

We use specifically hypoallergenic, DHA solutions. There all different kinds of solutions out there including aloe, moisturizers, wrinkle reducers and antioxidants. DHA or Docosahexaenoic Acid is an omega 3 fatty acid. Fish oils are high in DHA. Doctors have been recommending it for years in its dietary form. In dietary form, it has been shown to help with blood pressure issues and gout.
