I would like to answer some FALSEHOODS that were stated below by a MK rep.

Avon is less expensive to startbut you basically purchase your kit of needed items separately. - that is correct. Just $10.

Mary Kay has a preset kit of not only samples and full size products but also educational materials .-It costs approx $200!

Avon had territories Mary Kay does not and never did.
-that is correct BUT it has been literally 20 years since there were territories. This is not an issue when selling AVON. You can take it with you where you go/move. AVON is Global!

Avon you must order something each campaign period.- that is ABSOLUTELY not true! You don't have to buy anything everycampaign. You do need to make a purchase every 6 weeks/3 campaigns(biweekly) but it could be for 50 cents! Just to keep you active. In all my years of selling their has never been a time when I didn't have an order for myself or a customer.

Avon didn't offer team meetings or events to succeed. -RUBBISH! There are Leadership Development Meeting(IF you want to do that, I don't), New Rep Meetings and New Product Awareness Meetings EVERY Month!! Plus they are over 30 FREE Full-length training sessions/videos to teach you all you need to run a successful business and AVON!

Avon line is full of many products that I felt changed so much and was hard to keep on being knowledgeable about.- Yes, AVON offers a FULL range of porducts for men, women, children, the home and even pets BUT that is why with every product delivery you get new material that educates you on the latest products. It would be impossible for the over 1/2 million AVON rep in the USA to keep up with the 1,000 new products that come out every year if AVON wasn't constantly updating us.

...the campaigns are determined for you with Avon- this is true BUT the dates they have never been an issue. After 120 years they have the right systems in place.

The feedback I have recieved via AVON reps that sold MK, customers who switched from MK to AVON and from reseaching on the internet is that MK is SO expensive. Approximetly what the department store charges. Personally for me when i could afford a department store status brand I BOUGHT the dept store brand because I wanted my 'friends' & collegues to see what I used. Now that I'm older and wiser I buy the good stuff without a) spending a fortune, b) leaving my house to do it and c)the only one that I need to impress is my wallet.

AVON is also the 1st to stop testing on animals, the LARGEST supporter in the fight against Breast Cancer with OVER a half BILLION donated so far.

They also are very current and trendy with the addition of the mark. line featuring Lauren Conrad and Jordin Sparks.

They are advertised ALL over the place in fashion magnazines and TV.

As a person who used to obsess over MAC, Estee Lauder, Clinique, Lancome, Prescriptives and Origens and has SEVER allergies AVON has done WONDERS on my skin!

You don't have to believe me-research it yourself.

If you are just buying make-up products, I love Mary Kay. It has definately worked the best for my complextion. If you are going to sell Avon or Mary Kay, I think Avon's bigger product line gives you a broader range of people to sell to. Good Luck!

Avon only costs $10 to sign up, and there are no real requirements other than that. However, you will need to buy some samples and catalogs, so plan on spending more than that. The catalogs are very inexpensive—I think at or even below printing cost, but they can still add up if you're just leaving them everywhere as advertising.

Mary Kay costs $100 or so to start, but that includes a starter kit, which if you sell it all, you'll make more than double that. You probably should spend close to that getting started with Avon, but you're not required to as you are with Mary Kay. Mary Kay sells almost exclusively cosmetics, while Avon offers a wide variety of products, including clothing, jewelry, household accessories, and more.

In both of them, you work as an independent agent. You determine what price you sell the products at (full retail, or if you want to offer discounts). You then get a discount, based on your volume, of usually somewhere between 20-40% (I think Mary Kay may be slightly higher). That's your profit/income. Of course, out of that, you have to buy your samples, catalogs, and maybe some inventory of popular items you want to keep

I have done both. When I was younger I tried selling Avon, I now represent Mary Kay.

First I am assuming you wish to distribute the products. If you are looking to which is a better line. Again from experience of both I say Mary Kay but both with let you try them to determine for yourself.

About owning a business of one verses the other.:

I'll start with my first experience of Avon and compare as I go-
Avon is less expensive to start but you basically purchase your kit of needed items separately. Mary Kay has a preset kit of not only samples and full size products but also educational materials on the products and different ways in which they can be presented so show your clients. It also comes with a short video to see an example of someone presenting the products.

Avon had territories Mary Kay does not and never did

Avon you must order something each campaign period. Mary Kay you only have to order once a year to keep your name as a consultant. Though you will order more then that when you do it.

Avon didn't offer team meetings or events to succeed. Mary Kay has many different things you are invited to but not required to go in order to make your business as successful as you wish.

Avon line is full of many products that I felt changed so much and was hard to keep on being knowledgeable about. Mary Kay has it's main Skin Care line plus specialty items that continue to develop. I feel more confident with the line of products.

You choose when to order with Mary Kay the campaigns are determined for you with Avon

You should find out what works best for you, but most importantly which product line you love more to represent.

From my experience the company of Mary Kay was much more supportive in helping me succeed, but I also truly love the products that I present.

  7. Mary Kay by Morningstar
the Mary Kay Beauty Kit that you start with is $100 plus shipping for a total of about $116.
The samples are great for marketing potential like teacher appreciation breakfasts, Ladies Night out events, community events where you can hand out your card w/ a sample.

With Mary Kay, you constantly have training and motivation, you are never alone.

Both Mary Kay & Avon take a lot of dedication and hard work but both can pay off big.

I think it is a matter of preference. As a new AVON rep, I must say that I have been pleasantly surprised. The amount of training and support I have received has been outstanding. They have made many wonderful changes in recent years that have made owning your business a reality for many women. On of which is not being required to place an order every two weeks. I also love that fact that I am not pressured to do parties. I enjoy doing them once in a while, but I prefer to have one on one interaction with my customers.
As far as buying one or the other, again I think it is preference. Both companies offer high quality products that women have trusted for years. The major difference is price. In this economy, women should not have to spend a fortune to enhance their beauty. AVON has products that everyone can afford.
