One of the most common arguments about air guns and Hand Nailing Maybe after reading this you can decide what is your oppion of both.Nailing to high or not where manufacture suggests = What this means to homeowner is Loss ofThis is a common argument guys that use air guns claim it is not the guns but the guys that use them.While this may be true.I have been doing a study on the repairs that we go to and the proplems been finding.1st Problem has been improper nailing on roofs that was put on with air nails. wind warranty on the shingles for one second is shingles sliding off the roof sooner than should. Major problems. And completly replacing the roof to stop the constant repairs to old roof.Advantage I found on roofs that was Hand nailed most nails was in proper location according to manufacture. Wind Warranty is still good and no shingles was sliding off roof To Cause leaks.Over Driven nails = This is where I found nails drove all the way thru the shingles cause of too much air pressure on air guns. What this means for homeowner is Shingles sliding off roof sooner causing major problems. And completly replacing the roof to stop the constant repairs to old roof.Repairs went to that had been hand nailed properly driven nails.= Shingles still in place not sliding off the roof.Under driven Nails= Found this common with roofs installed with air guns and this causes nails to pentrate the shingles and causes leaks in several locations on the home.Hand nailed did still find rarely that the nails was under driven or backed out.Improper flashing, and pipe boots was the other most common reasons for leaks.So after I have looked at the pro and cons in my own personal oppion if I was looking for a roofer I would choose the guy that hand nails his shingles I believe I would Find that my roof would last alot longer with less repairs witch in the end would save me alot of money in untimely repairs. Did you no that something as small as nailing shingles to high? Can cause your wind warranty to drop?This is something that We see way more than we should As we walk on roofs daily and repair them so many roofs is not properly nailed. This causes shingles to blow off, and guess what if not nailed where manufacture shows reduces the wind warranty on the shingles. Another common thing we see is nails placed in wrong places witch causes leaks. This is sad because roofing is not cheap it is very expensive. So when a homeowner pays for a new roof expects to get several years of good use out of it. This is alot of the reasons here at Elite Pro Roofing llc. We don't use air guns sure they are fast But 1 out of 10 roofers will take the time to proper nail the shingles. Either they nailed to high, nails drove thru the shingles and not holding or not nailed down all the way and nail pops thru the shingles. And all these things cause a roof that should last for 15+ years with no proplems. Last only a few years and causes homeowner alot of problems. And Cost homeowner $ thousands of dollars in repairs and eventually a roof replacement. Alot sooner than a proper nailed roof. So with this all being Said that is why we Hand nail all our shingles.
