For the average home owner in todays fast paced lifestyles can find it overwhelming to attack a larger home improvement project on there own such as, flooring installations, or painting the exterior of your home. But is it possible to find a dependable home improvement service? Yes. AllPhase Home Services!! DIY If you decide to go with the do it yourself route, there are three things to consider, cost, time, and level of difficulty. Always be sure to check around for the best deal on your materials, but remember, the best deal is not always the best quality! When handling a DIY project your the labor! So only YOU decide the quality of workmanship. If you feel that you need a little advice, you can check the Internet (use a trusted site, ie: Home Depot, Lowes, etc.) You want to know that the information your obtaining is true and correct or that "little" home improvement project can get quite costly if you find yourself having to do it twice!!! Or, you can go " face to face", there are still a few tradesmen out there who take a lot of pride in there work and once you get them "talking shop" you can't get them to shut up!! Take notes! Of course hes not going to dull out free advice for long before he starts getting out his invoice book!! Handyman Hiring a handyman service is an easy way to get the project done efficiently, and in a timely matter. There are PLENTY of services out there, but don't just settle on the first one you find. With a growing economy here in Mobile, Al. we see services pop up and come and go. Always shop around, talk to friends, family, and co workers to see what services that have used and how happy or unhappy they were .Most handyman services offer a wide variety of services such as, carpentry services, house painting, flooring installations, appliance installations, drywall repairs, and the list goes on and on! Any service you use should always offer an up front price in writing, most offer free estimates, but always ask how long the estimate is good for. I recommend getting at least three estimates. Also, use your own judgment, ask questions about your project, discuss if the price quote includes materials or is it just for labor? Ask if they are marking up the materials? To be sure your saving as much as possible, ask if YOU can provide materials. If you hire a service, most can provide you a material list pre service and can provide material pick up for a small fee. G.C. If your having a larger job done such as, additions, new construction, etc. then you will want to locate a general contractor. General contractor usually dont like to bother with exterior painting, drywall repairs and so on. Most (if they do accept the job) will sub contract it out to one of there laborers who work in that specific field. But if your project requires electrical, major or new plumbing then a general contractor will be your best bet. Again, always ask around and get references. Always ask what there direct involvement will be, will they be on site through out the job? Make sure you have plenty of contact information for your contractor, the last thing you want is an issue to arise on the job and it hold you up for half a day or more because your playing voice mail tag with you G.C.!
