Fly fishing Alaska is a wonderful experience. There are many different fish to target at different times of year.In the spring, steelhead are the fish of choice. The steelhead are running in southeast Alaska April through June. Steelhead are sea run rainbow trout and they get very big! If you hook into one, you're into a fight of a lifetime! In southeast Alaska, we call it big fish in small water. Fly fish Alaska king salmon. Fly fishing opportunities for king salmon in southeast Alaska are very good June, July and August. Fishermen's Inn has a Cessna 185 float plane to fly our guest into remote spots to fish. King salmon are very big fish and can spool you if you're not careful! Fly fish Alaska silver salmon. Silver salmon are very abundant in southeast Alaska! There is one summer run of silver salmon and they show up around the first part of July. Fly fishing for silver salmon in southeast Alaska is best August, September and October. Silver salmon are very aggressive and will readily hit a fly, giving you great action. Sockeye salmon are pound for pound the best fighters. The Sockeye salmon are difficult to hook but they will give you an explosive fight! Sockeye will start to show in some streams early June and can be fished until September. Fly fishing for trout is very good in southeast Alaska. We have rainbow and cutthroat in many streams and lakes. It is easy to find places to fly fish trout where no one is around, making for a relaxing experience.
