Pavitt is a great club. What I appreciate most about it is they make every effort to create a great experience. The club is well-maintained, the staff is really helpful, and the workout equipment itself is fabulous. The equipment is well laid out, there's plenty of it, and they've done a great job getting the right stuff. ...read more

Northstar Gift Shop

My fiancé bought me a tanzanite ring with white sapphires while on a tour with Tom's Christian Tours in June of 2013. I called Northstar Gifts and left a message that one of the sapphires has fallen out. I would like a replacement ring as the stone fell out this past August 2014. It would be nice if they would at least return my phone call. My fiancé's mother goes to Alaska in June of 2015. She likes to shop. If they want to keep customers coming they should be polite to past customers! Cheryl Schwoerer/Mark Lentz ...read more

Gold Rush Tour Center

We came here and ended up purchasing a a bus tour, I found the two women that served us to be ungracious, unfriendly and couldn't crack a smile if their life depended. When we walked out I commented to my husband "what is wrong with those women"? Further into Juneau we found a company offering a better deal so we returned within 10-minutes to try to get a refund only to have them point to a hand-written post on their white-board ALL TOURS NON-REFUNDABLE". What the heck, they never mentioned this to us nor did we see the sign. Terrible service do not buy tours from them because you will find them cheaper just a 150 yards further on. These places are just tourist money traps plus they could give decent service if they don't like tourist then they should not be working there. THUMBS DOWN LADIES! ...read more

Venetian Jewelers

By ChristinaShafer

My fiancé and I purchased a very nice engagement ring on a Disney Cruise we took last November. I fell in love with it right away because of its uniqueness. When the first small stone in the halo fell off I returned it and got it fixed and the ring resized. It took over a month and a half until I got it back. I had it for around 3 months and another diamond on the side fell out. Again I returned it this time getting it back within 2 weeks. They had told me all the diamonds had been tightened. Not even a week of having it another diamond on the side fell out!! I was at a jewelers trying to get a band made for it and she told me many of the diamonds were loose!!! I was so upset, so I called back and this time they decided to totally remake the ring in my size with more gold around the edges to hold the stones in place. Once I finally got it back I was happy with the result. I then took it to my jewelers who is doing my bands and he brought to my intention that my center diamond had a large inclusion in it that I had never noticed. They said the diamond was an SI2, but clearly it is an I1. I do not remember having this inclusion before. Did they switch it?? I am using a diamond from my grandmother’s ring that is of better quality to replace the center stone. Overall I am extremely disappointed in the quality of the workmanship of the ring. For how much we paid for it this should not be happening. My jeweler here will now take care of all my problems. I am glad that they replaced everything at no charge but the first 2 times we shipped it back we had to pay $40 each time to get it insured!! The only other good thing is that we did not get ripped off. My jeweler said what we paid for it is about market price though of course he could have made it cheaper. Oh well. It is the memories about that night and the story of how he proposed that matters. My ring is getting worked on right now and I cannot wait to have it back with the new center stone. Overall I would not recommend this company and never buy a ring on a cruise ship. We sure learned our lesson! ...read more

Alaska Public Entity Insurance

1.0

By ChrisKatzl

Alaska public entity insurance is lousy. To start with the district did not file in a timely manner and caused delays. Then when they did file APEI has not answered their phones or even returned phone calls. Rather than give my case the review and hearing expected and mandated by legislation, they immediately became litigious and have refused to pay on medical bills and lost income. Even their attorneys have not answered phone calls or messages for me or the doctors/hospitals. ...read more

Venetian Jewelers

These people are total scammers. If you want junk jewelry at double of what it's worth, buy here. They have great marketing and probably have some nice pieces, but overall- they are a joke. We bought rings here and got them appraised when we got back to the states and they were worth 1/3 of what we paid. Plus, the appraiser noticed some of the stones were mixed quality and chipped! These people are thieves. I was contacted by people who are considering a class action law suit against these folks. We are going to participate if we don't get our problems resolved. It's been over 2 years since we bought the chinzy ring. Google venetian or ebla and you will see how many people have been ripped off by them. and their dishonesty. You are better off buying from a street vendor somewhere- they probably have better quality and better ethics. ...read more

Venetian Jewelers

Lets be real. The favorable reviews on here are posted by Elba or Venetian. I bought a ring for wife only to come back to the states, get it appraised by a trusted source and told it was worth less than half of what I paid. Then, two diamonds fell out. Contacted them and they offered no restitution and were rude. This company is pathetic- they are a bunch of gypsies who will take your money and run. STAY AWAY. Buy jewelry from real, respectable jewelers, not these crooks. ...read more

How To Visit Alaska on A Budget

Alaska is brimmed with compelling sights situated on an extensive area of untamed wilderness. Due to its remote location though, experiencing quintessential activities in the state like river rafting and dog sledding can come at a hefty price. It's a great thing that you can experience the most stunningadventures in Alaskawithout breaking the bank. With the right planning, a trip to the "Last Frontier" can virtually suit any budget.   Weigh All Mean of Travels   If you are short of time, flying may be your only choice. If you can spare some time, however, reaching Alaska by land or sea can help you get considerable saving. You can check the Alaska Marine Highway System that links to Bellingham, Washington, just a few miles away from Seattle. You may also consider the Alaska Highway, often called Al-Can, which bridges Seattle to the City of Fairbanks in Alaska.   Watch What You Eat   If possible, shop and dine as if you are local. Instead of forking lots of money on casual restaurants, choose from lots of microbreweries and pubs in the area. If you have travelling by car, you can purchase groceries and gas farther into the towns compared to spending premium on establishments near your hotel.   Stay In A Hostel   Hotels are undoubtedly expensive — an excellent way to save on costs is staying in hostels instead. You can choose a private room or a dorm bed at a fraction of a hotel expense. Plus, you have the perk to prepare your own meals at their kitchen. Moreover, you get to socialize with other travelers across the globe. If you are worried about safety and comfort, you can always check the Alaska Hostel Association's list of accredited properties.   Travel In the Shoulder Season   Winters in Alaska are ruthlessly cold, and a winter trip is only suitable for those who have experience with that much snow and ice. The tourist season happens from June until August, which brings massive crowds and causes prices to skyrocket. Shoulder season in May and September provides both fair weather and rational pricing.    Pick A Tour Package   There are lots of tours that are available at a reasonable price while not compromising quality. Your whole trip is planned based on your interests and needs, get to stay in heated cabins comfortably, and enjoy delicious food and drinks. No money will be wasted on unnecessary trips as they surely know where to take you to experience enthrallingadventures in Alaska.   A trip to Alaska can be both wonderful and affordable. Make sure to plan early plus follow these simple tips - there are lots of fascinatingadventures in Alaskaawaiting for you. ...read more
