The current trend these days is to update a bathroom. Some bathrooms are just in want of materials newer than thirty years ago, while others need new space planning to incorporate more bathing space, more closet space in an adjacent room or more storage needs. Certainly, the colors have changed in thirty years, as well as, textures and patterns. More people are looking for neutrals in the way of natural stones or a copy of stone in a porcelain tile and luxury vinyl tile. Along with neutrals are wood species in natural tones or much deeper 'java' tones. These deeper tones offset the natural colors of stones and clear glass accents found in many designs. Before deciding on which colors to use in a room, the space needs to be planned to best suit the people who are using the space. Currently, large whirlpool tubs are being replaced with smaller footprint soaker tubs. Smaller shower areas are becoming larger to utilize bench seats, body jets, and another shower head. Showers are also getting frameless glass enclosures or simply doing away with the need to have a door to close the space off. A 'roman shower' is an enclosure without a door. The countertop area is now being adjusted in height to accommodate the heights of the users. Historically, vanity tops were thirty inches off the finished floor. This dates back to when servicemen were returning from World War II and were using their GI Bills to build the '3 Bedroom-1 Bath Home'. The one bath vanity was designed for the needs of young children at the expense of adults! Amazing how that 'standard' lsted for so many decades! We're now in the decade of choice, and so your vanity countertop along with your toilet, shower head or body sprays can be customized to the height of your desires and needs.
