While it has been at least 10 years since I've visited Gethsemane, I can tell you that it is located on a ridge that overlooks some beautiful and peaceful land. Members of my father's family are buried there, and some of the graves go back well into the early to mid-1800's. This cemetary and the road leading to it used to be poorly maintained in the 1950's and 60's, but the more recent owners have paved the road and maintained the grounds. They have also made the cemetary into a bit of a military park. My great grandfather (W.D. Thurmond) was a captain in the CSA and participated in guerilla activity in southern West Virginia.
